Infant turtle-back deformity arises from sitting upright too early, allowing exogenous wind-cold to invade the spine. The pathogenic wind penetrates to the marrow, causing the back to protrude high, resembling the shell of a turtle.
For treating infant turtle-back deformity, it is appropriate to administer Mahuang Wan (Ephedra Pill).
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (3 fen, remove roots and nodes), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (remove rhizome head), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (minced and lightly stir-fried), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) (stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, and mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of five pills taken orally with rice water decoction, three times daily. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and condition.

Binglang (Arecae Semen) (0.5 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, minced and lightly stir-fried), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) (remove rhizome head), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (remove rhizome head), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix).
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, and mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of sesame seeds. Each dose consists of five pills taken orally with rice water decoction, three times daily. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and condition.
Infant turtle-chest deformity results from lung heat causing distension and fullness, leading to a chest that protrudes high like a turtle. It is also said that excessive consumption of hot milk can cause this condition.
For treating infant turtle-chest deformity, characterized by lung heat obstruction and stagnation, along with fullness and oppression in the heart and diaphragm, use Dahuang Wan (Rhubarb Pill).
Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (3 fen, minced and lightly stir-fried), Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix) (remove core and bake), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (soaked in hot water, remove skin and pointed ends, use double-kernel seeds, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) (minced).
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, and mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take at any time, crushing five pills in warm water before ingestion. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and condition.
