In the context of seasonal febrile diseases (Shi Qi), simultaneous involvement of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) and Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) meridians occurs. The pulse is floating and tight. If purgation is incorrectly applied, the tightness reverses and enters the interior, resulting in a Pi syndrome (epigastric fullness/oppression). "Pi" refers to fullness below the heart. If the disease originates from Yin patterns, fullness does not occur.
For treating seasonal febrile diseases where heat-toxin persists, with constipation and difficult defecation, epigastric and abdominal fullness, inability to eat or drink, mental confusion, delirious speech, and a flooding and rapid pulse:
Bie Jia (Turtle Shell, *Chinemys reevesii* shell) [prepared by coating with vinegar and roasting until yellow, removing the skirt], Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root, *Platycodonis Radix*), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root, *Panacis Ginseng Radix*) [remove rhizome], Bing Lang (Areca Seed, *Arecae Semen*), Yin Chen (Artemisia Capillaris Herb, *Artemisiae Scopariae Herba*), Bai Xian Pi (Dawsonia Root Bark, *Dawsoniae Cortex*).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Each dose consists of five qian. Boil with one large zhan of water and half a qian of fresh ginger until reduced to half a zhan. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For treating seasonal febrile diseases causing epigastric fullness and obstruction in the chest and diaphragm, the Qian Hu San formula is indicated.
Qian Hu (Peucedanum Root, *Peucedani Radix*) [remove rhizome], Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Rubra*), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, *Aucklandiae Radix*), Qing Ju Pi (Green Tangerine Peel, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride*) [soak in hot water, remove white pith, roast], Bing Lang (Areca Seed, *Arecae Semen*) [each of the above, one liang].
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Each dose consists of five qian. Boil with one medium zhan of water until reduced to six-tenths. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
