Qi Lin (Qi-type strangury) is a condition caused by the gradual deficiency of Stomach Qi, heat in the Bladder, and distension due to Qi stagnation. The Bladder and Kidney are exterior-interiorly related. When the Bladder is affected by heat, hot qi flows into the Pao (Bladder). Heat causes urinary obstruction and difficulty.
For treating Qi Lin with abdominal distension and urinary blockage, use Wuzhuyu San (Evodia Powder):
Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 0.5 liang, soaked in boiling water seven times, dried, and lightly stir-fried), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 0.5 liang, processed until cracked and chopped), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root, 0.5 liang), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 0.5 liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 1 liang).
Crush and sieve the above herbs to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 0.5 zhong. Strain the dregs. Add Zhenzhu (Pearl) and Xionghuang (Realgar) powders, each measuring "yi zi" (a traditional small weight unit). Mix well. Add half a small zhong of wine, boil for three cycles. Let it cool to a warm temperature and take before meals.
For treating Qi Lin with pain in the Small Intestine, use Muxiang San (Costus Powder):
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 0.3 liang, chopped), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.3 liang), Jisu (Elsholtziae Herba, 1 liang), Binglang (Arecae Semen, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 0.5 liang, rhizome removed), Chifuling (Red Poria, 0.3 liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 0.5 liang, chopped and lightly stir-fried), Taoren (Persicae Semen, 0.5 liang, soaked in water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel bran removed, bran-fried until slightly yellow).
Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs to make a powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain the dregs and take warm before meals.
For treating Qi Lin with lower abdominal distension and frequent sharp pain below the umbilicus, use Fuling San (Poria Powder):
Chifuling (Red Poria, 3 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Kuizi (Abutilonis Semen, 1 he), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 2 liang, chopped), Yupi (Ulmus Bark, 3 liang, chopped), Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, one handful, chopped).
Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs to make a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water and three stalks of Congbai (Scallion White). Decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain the dregs and take warm before meals. Continue until urination becomes smooth.
