After the pus of a moxibustion sore has ruptured, if swelling becomes urgent and pain severe, this is due to the contraction of wind-cold pathogens.
Formula for treating moxibustion sores with unbearable acute swelling and pain: Shuili Gao (Water Willow Ointment).
Ingredients: Shuili Zhi (Branches of Salix integra, 2 liang, chopped; use bark from branches in spring and summer, and bark from roots in autumn and winter), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 liang, crushed), Baijiaoxiang (Boswellia resin, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Shexiang (Moschus, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Songzhi (Pine resin, 0.5 liang), Huangla (Yellow beeswax, 0.5 liang), Huangdan (Litharge, 3 liang, fried until purple), You (Oil, 8 he).
Procedure: First, place the oil in a pan (dang) and refine it over a gentle fire until fragrant. Gradually add the willow branches and licorice, decocting until the mixture turns black. Strain out the dregs. Then add the Boswellia resin and pine resin, continuing to heat until the color changes.
Formula for extracting fire-toxicity and sucking out pus from moxibustion sores with acute swelling and pain:
Ingredients: Huang (Yellow [text unclear, possibly Huangbo or Huanglian], 0.5 liang), Baiji (Rhizoma Bletillae, 1 fen), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, 1 fen), Baiwei (Radix Cynanchi Atrati, 1 fen), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 fen), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra, 1 fen), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, 1 fen, removed rhizome), Ruxiang (Olibanum, 1 fen, finely ground).
Procedure: Except for the olibanum, chop all other ingredients finely. Soak them in oil in a pan overnight. Decoct over a slow fire until the willow branch material turns yellow-black. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Clarify the oil and clean the pan thoroughly. Refine the medicated oil over a slow fire, adding litharge. Stir continuously with a willow wood spatula until the litharge turns slightly black. Test the consistency by dropping a small amount into water and kneading it between fingers. Add the olibanum and stir until uniform. Pour into a non-porous container for storage. For each application, spread the ointment evenly on paper according to the size of the moxibustion sore and apply as a patch. Change twice daily. Simultaneously, decoct green onion soup, dip soft cloth in it, and use it to fumigate and wash the affected area.
Formula for treating acute swelling of moxibustion sores:
Ingredients: Bai Bipi (Cortex Platycladi, 3 liang), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 liang), Xiebai (Bulbus Allii Macrostemonis, one handful).
Procedure: Chop the ingredients. Fry together with 1 jin of lard. Cook until the garlic bulb turns yellow and scorched. Strain out the dregs. Allow to cool and apply topically. This formula is also effective for sores caused by wind-stroke and burns.
Formula for treating swollen, red, and ulcerating moxibustion sores:

Procedure: Pound and sieve the ingredients into powder. Mix with raw sesame oil and apply topically. Immediate effect is expected.
