The pathogenic heat and toxic qi of febrile disease have not been eliminated. Both the exterior and interior patterns remain unresolved. Heat accumulates in the Bladder (Bladder organ), flowing into the lower abdomen. Excessive heat dries the Spleen and Stomach, leading to a deficiency of body fluids; thus, dysuria (difficult or painful urination) occurs.
For febrile disease where heat-toxin stagnation causes abdominal distension and fullness with dysuria, the Huashi San (Talcum Powder) is indicated.
Ingredients: Hua Shi (Talcum, 2 liang), Tian Ting Li (Descurainiae Semen, 1 he, stir-fried over paper until purple), Han Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 1 liang), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis, 0.5 liang, sliced), Zhu Ling (Polyporus, 1 liang, black skin removed), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and sliced).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients and sieve them coarsely to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan of water, decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Strain the dregs. Drink warm at any time.
For febrile disease presenting with dysuria, or dribbling pain, the Mutong San (Akebia Caulis Powder) is indicated.
