Heat dysentery arises from the weakness of the intestines and stomach, where wind-pathogen combined with heat invades. When the intestines are weak, diarrhea and dysentery occur. The stool color is yellow; if the heat is severe, it becomes yellow mixed with red.
For treating heat dysentery with discharge of red and yellow pus and blood, accompanied by abdominal pain, mental restlessness, fatigue, and stifling sensation, use Rhinoceros Horn Powder (Xijiao San).
Rhinoceros Horn fragments (1 liang), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian) (1 liang, remove roots, slightly stir-fried), Aucklandia Root (Muxiang) (3 fen), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (0.5 liang, sliced, slightly stir-fried), Sanguisorba Root (Diyu) (1 liang, sliced), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin) (1 liang, sliced).
The above herbs are pounded, sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted in one zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen. Strain the dregs and take warm at any time.
