The armpits of a person emit an odor, resembling that of fermented scallions and fermented soybeans (Congchi), or some say it smells like a fox; hence it is called Fox Odor (Huchou). This is all caused by disharmony of Qi and Blood, with the accumulation of stagnant toxins.
Formula for treating Fox Odor that is pungent and difficult to describe, aiming for permanent cure:
Cicada Slough (Chanqiao) [49 pieces], Dried Plum Flesh (Wumei Rou) [7 pieces, lightly stir-fried], Green Vitriol (Lvfan) [1 liang], Cocoon Brine (Jianlu) [1 he], Ancient Green Coins (Qing Guqian) [7 wen], Almond (Xingren) [7 pieces].
Except for the coins, grind the above herbs into powder, mix with the brine in a mortar. First wash the axilla with soap pod water, dry it, then rub the area with the coin until it feels hot. Pluck the underarm hair.
Formula suitable for treating Axillary Odor (Yexi) stronger than that of a fox:
White Vitriol (Baifan) [1 liang, calcined until juice runs out], Red Lead (Huandan) [1 liang], Southern Vitriol (Nanfan) [1 fen], Iron Powder (Tiefen) [1 fen], Realgar (Xionghuang) [1 fen], Calomel (Nifen) [1 fen].
