Cases of carbuncles accompanied by deficiency-heat arise from cold pathogens invading the meridians, causing Qi and blood to become obstructed and stagnant, leading to condensation, swelling, and the formation of a carbuncle. When heat qi becomes congested and knotted, blood transforms into pus. After the pus has ruptured and the carbuncle has healed, residual heat remains uneliminated, while Qi and blood are already deficient. The patient experiences intermittent feverish sensations and physical weakness and fatigue; thus, this condition is termed "deficiency-heat."
For treating carbuncles after onset, where pus continues to drain without stopping, manifesting as deficiency-heat in the skin and flesh, dry mouth, and poor appetite: Shudihuang San (Prepared Rehmannia Powder).
Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (1 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang, crushed), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang, heart removed), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (0.5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang, radix removed), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (2 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (0.5 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (0.5 liang), Baifuling (Poria) (1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, raw).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 6 fen volume, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
For treating carbuncles where pus has ruptured and continues for several days without stopping, resulting in body weakness, vexation, and heat: Huangqi San (Astragalus Powder).
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang, crushed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (1 liang, radix removed), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Lingyangjiaoxie (Saiga Tataricae Cornu) (1 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (3 fen), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, raw and crushed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang, radix removed), Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (0.5 liang), Baifuling (Poria) (1 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (1 liang).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 6 fen volume, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
For treating carbuncles where excessive purulent discharge leads to internal deficiency and external heat: Renshen San (Ginseng Powder).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang, radix removed), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (3 fen), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang, heart removed), Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (0.5 liang), Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (1 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang, crushed), Baifuling (Poria) (1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, raw and crushed).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 6 fen volume, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
For treating carbuncles where pus drainage has ceased, muscle tissue is internally deficient, yet residual heat remains: Chenxiang San (Agarwood Powder).
Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) (1 liang, crushed), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (0.5 liang), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, raw and crushed), Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (2 liang), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 liang, radix removed), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix) (0.5 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (3 fen), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang, heart removed), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1.5 liang).
Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, insert 14 leaves of Zhuye (Bambusae Folium) and 50 grains of Xiaomai (Tritici Fructus), decoct until reduced to 6 fen volume, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
