Itching and urgency of the eyes are caused by wind-pathogen invading the space between the eyelids, where it contends with blood, qi, and body fluids. This contention causes itching and tearing, while the eyes remain constantly red and dry/astringent. This condition is also referred to as an eye disorder.
For treating redness, moisture, itching, and urgency of the eyes, the Weirui San (Weirui Powder) formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Yu Zhu (Polygonatum Odoratum Rhizome), Qin Pi (Fraxinus Cortex), Gan Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, radix removed), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped, 1 liang each), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1.5 liang).
Process: The above ingredients are crushed, sifted into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct in one zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm after meals, and again before bed at night.
