The Qi of Yin and Yang both ascend and pour into the eyes. If Wind-pathogen and Phlegm-Qi invade the Zang-Fu organs, causing an imbalance of deficiency and excess in the organ Qi, then Qi rushes to the eyes. If this condition is not treated for a long time, it leads to the formation of eye nebulae (corneal opacities). It is appropriate to take the Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder) formula to dispel Wind-toxicity and eliminate nebulae obstructions.
Zhenzhu Mo (Pearl Powder, 1 liang); Ruren (Prunus persica kernel, 3 fen, soaked in decoction, red skin removed); Qinpi (Fraxinus bark, 3 fen, chopped); Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis, 1 liang, finely ground and processed by water flotation); Cheqianzi (Plantago seed, 3 fen, stir-fried until slightly red, chopped).
Crush the above herbs and sieve them through a fine mesh to make a powder. After meals, take 3 qian (or 2 qian according to some versions) with Gandou Tang (Sweet Bean Decoction). Avoid roasted, fried, greasy foods, and hot wheat noodles.
For treating eye nebulae, dim vision, and pain in the head and forehead, it is appropriate to take the Shijueming San (Concha Haliotidis Powder) formula.
Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis, 1 liang, crushed, finely ground, and processed by water flotation); Weirui (Polygonatum rhizome, 1 liang); Huanglian (Coptis rhizome, 3 fen, mustache removed); Ximingzi (Speranskia tuberculata seed, 1 liang); Juemingzi (Cassia seed, 3 liang); Juhua (Chrysanthemum flower, 1 liang); Xixin (Asarum root, 0.5 liang); Gancao (Licorice root, 0.5 liang, stir-fried until slightly red and chopped).
Crush the above herbs and sieve them through a fine mesh to make a powder. After meals, take 2 qian with Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction).
For treating eye nebulae and eliminating red blood vessels in the eyes, it is appropriate to apply Zengqing San (Azurite Powder).
Zengqing (Azurite, 1 liang); Beichi (Concha Meretricis, 0.5 liang, calcined); Wuzheyugu (Sepiae endoconcha, 1 liang); Tonglü (Malachite, 1 fen); Qingfen (Calomelas, 1 fen); Ruren (Prunus persica kernel, 3 fen, soaked in decoction).
Grind all the above herbs together into a fine powder. Take a small amount each time and apply it to the nebula. This can be done twice a day.
For treating eye nebulae and pterygium (fleshy growth over the cornea), it is appropriate to apply Qingyan Gao (Green Salt Ointment).
Qingyan (Green Salt, 1 fen); Qingfen (Calomelas, 0.5 liang); Ruren (Prunus persica kernel, 3 fen, soaked in decoction, red skin removed); Pengsha (Borax, 1 fen, dissolved in Jiangshui [fermented grain wash], impurities wiped off, and ground).
Mix the above herbs and grind them extremely finely. Blend with Niusu (Ox butter) to form a hard ointment. Form pills the size of millet seeds. Apply to the nebula, close the eyes, and lie down to let the medicine absorb.
For treating eye nebulae and improving vision, Longnao Gao (Borneol Ointment) formula.
Longnao (Borneol, 0.5 fen); Sha (Sand, size of one large soybean); Ruren (Prunus persica kernel, 3 pieces, soaked in decoction, red skin removed); Jiziqiao (Chicken eggshell, 1 piece, cleaned by rubbing with dry sand soil).
Grind the above ingredients together until very fine. Mix with Niusu (Ox butter), stir evenly with a chopstick, and store in a porcelain bottle. Apply a small amount to the eyes 3-4 times a day.
For treating eye nebulae, red and painful eyes, itching, and dryness, it is appropriate to apply Shidan San (Stone Gall Powder).
Shidan (Stone Gall, 0.5 liang); Shiyan (Rock Salt, 1 liang); Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 liang); Yanlü (Salt Green/Malachite variant, 0.5 liang); Longnao (Borneol, 1 fen); Nifen (Calomelas, 1 qian).
Grind the above herbs together into a powder. Use the tip of a chopstick to take an amount the size of a small bean and apply it to the eyes. Do this 3-4 times a day.
For treating eye nebulae, red eyes, wind-induced pain, and tearing, it is appropriate to apply this Zhusha San (Cinnabar Powder) formula.
Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 liang); Beichi (Concha Meretricis, 5 pieces, calcined to ash); Yizhongbaiyu (Silverfish found in clothes, 14 pieces); Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 0.5 fen); Nifen (Calomelas, 0.5 fen).

First, grind the first two ingredients together into a powder. Mix with vinegar until uniform. Simmer over low heat until the consistency is appropriate. Store in a porcelain bottle. Apply at night before sleep.
For treating red and painful eyes, subsequent formation of nebulae, blurred distant vision, itching, and dryness, it is appropriate to apply Shanhu San (Coral Powder).
Shanhu (Coral, 3 fen); Longnao (Borneol, 0.5 qian); Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 fen).
First, grind Coral and Cinnabar into a powder. Then add Borneol and grind again until uniform. Use a chopstick to take an amount the size of a rice grain and apply to the eyes 3-4 times a day.
