If the eye is suddenly struck by an object, and the eyeball protrudes but the connecting tissue (eye band) remains intact, it should be immediately pushed back into the eyelid. Do not cause panic or touch it roughly; ointment can be applied around the four sides, and fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Dihuang) may be used.
For pain resulting from eye trauma, the Chishao Yao San (Red Peony Powder) is indicated.
Chishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra, 1 liang), Chongweizi (Fructus Viticis Trifoliae, 1 liang), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, with the rhizome removed), Xiongbai (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, crushed), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-fried with bran).
The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in one zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen, strain, and take warm at any time.
For sudden eye trauma causing swelling, dryness, and pain, the Shengan Dihuang San (Dried Fresh Rehmannia Powder) is indicated.

The above ingredients are finely ground and sieved to make a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in one zhong of water until reduced to 6 fen, strain, and take warm at any time.
For eye trauma where the pupil is undamaged but blood stasis persists in the sclera (white part of the eye) causing unbearable pain, the Hupo San (Amber Powder) is indicated.
Hupo (Succinum, finely ground), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, crushed and lightly stir-fried, each 1 liang), Chishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Taoren (Semen Persicae, soaked in hot water, skin and pointed end removed, double kernels selected, stir-fried with bran).
