The Kidney governs water metabolism. When Kidney Qi is deficient, Water Qi acts recklessly, failing to follow the meridians and collaterals, and stagnates around the umbilicus, causing swelling and hardness of the lower abdomen like a stone; thus it is called "Stone Water" (Shi Shui).
Its manifestations include distending pain in the hypochondrium radiating from the sides without panting. A deep pulse indicates Stone Water; a slightly large pulse at the Chi position also indicates Stone Water. Edema rises from below the umbilicus to the lower abdomen, hanging down heavily.
To treat Stone Water, where the four limbs are thin while the abdomen alone is swollen, resembling pregnancy, with chest oppression and shortness of breath after eating, use Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder).
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Chifuling (Polyporus Umbellatus) (1 liang), Sanggenbaidpi (Mori Cortex) (1.5 liang, sliced), Chubai pi (Broussonetiae Albus Cortex) (1.5 liang, sliced), Hanfangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (1 liang), Zeqi jingye (Euphorbiae Helioscopiae Herba et Caulis) (2.5 liang, sliced), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (1 liang).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with half a cup of water and half a cup of wine until reduced to 60%, remove dregs, and take warm. Re-administer after walking approximately five kilometers, aiming for bowel unobstruction.
To treat Stone Water, characterized by a tight, shiny, drum-like abdomen and scanty, difficult urination, this formula is suitable.
Binglang mo (Arecae Semen Pulvis) (0.5 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 fen, stir-baked until slightly red and sliced), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (1 liang, sliced), Sanggenbaidpi (Mori Cortex) (1 liang, sliced), Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix) (1 liang, sliced).
Excluding Binglang mo, decoct two large cups of water until one large cup remains, remove dregs. Divide into two doses taken at dawn (Wugeng), each mixed with 1 fen of Binglang mo. Bowel movement should occur by daybreak. If not, administer again.
To treat Stone Water, with thin limbs, a large abdomen, chest fullness, and rapid panting upon eating, this formula is suitable.
Sanggenbaidpi (Mori Cortex) (1 liang, sliced), Dafupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (1 liang, sliced), Hanfangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (1 liang), Zeqi (Euphorbiae Helioscopiae Herba et Caulis) (2 liang), Chifuling (Polyporus Umbellatus) (2 liang), Zisu jingye (Perillae Folium et Caulis) (1 liang).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one large cup of wine and 50 fried black soybeans until reduced to 50%, remove dregs, and take warm at any time.
To treat Stone Water, with a hard, gradually enlarging abdomen and edematous limbs, this formula is suitable.
Tiantingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii Semen) (2 liang, stir-fried between papers until purple), Chuanniaoxiao (Natrii Sulfas) (3 liang), Jiaomu (Semen Zanthoxyli) (2 he, lightly stir-fried to remove moisture), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum) (1 liang, ground with a small amount of Jujubae Fructus flesh until no particles remain), Hanfangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (1 liang), Haiha (Concha Meretricis et Cyprinae) (1 liang, finely ground).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted into powder, and thoroughly mixed with ground Hydrargyrum. Combine with refined honey and pound 200-300 times to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills per dose with rice soup, 3-4 times daily.
To treat Stone Water, with umbilical and abdominal oppression, whole-body edema, difficulty in urination and defecation, and panting, use Haiha Wan (Clam Shell Pill).
Haiha (Concha Meretricis et Cyprinae) (1 liang, finely ground), Hanfangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (0.5 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (0.5 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) (1 liang, sliced), Qianniuzi (Semen Pharbitidis) (1 liang, lightly stir-fried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (0.5 liang), Gansui (Kansui Radix) (0.5 liang, baked until slightly yellow).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted into powder, combined with Jujubae Fructus flesh, and pounded 200-300 times to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 20 pills per dose with aromatic soup, aiming for bowel unobstruction; if ineffective, re-administer.
To treat Stone Water, with abdominal distension, inability to sit or lie comfortably, and scanty, difficult urination, this formula is suitable.
Qianniuzi (Semen Pharbitidis) (1 liang), Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (3 fen, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried), Jingsanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma) (1 liang, processed and sliced), Helile pi (Terminaliae Chebulae Pericarpium) (1 liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) (1 liang), Gansui (Kansui Radix) (0.5 liang, baked until slightly yellow).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted into powder, combined with refined honey, and pounded 200-300 times to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 10 pills before meals with Ginger and Tangerine Peel soup, aiming for bowel unobstruction.
To treat abdominal hardness and distension, known as Stone Water, this formula is suitable.
Baishiyin (Quartzum Album) (10 liang, clear and pure pieces).
Crush into pieces the size of soybeans, place in a porcelain bottle, soak in 2 dou of good wine, seal the mouth tightly with mud, and heat slowly using horse manure and bran, maintaining a gentle simmer.
