Fleshy growths resembling thorns growing between the toes are called "flesh thorns" (Rouci, a type of corn or callus). This condition arises from wearing tight boots and socks, causing friction between the little toe and adjacent toes.
Prescription for treating flesh thorns:
Gleditsiae Fructus (Feizao Jia) - one pod
Tannin Stone (Moshi Zi) - three pieces
Burn the above ingredients until smoke ceases, then grind finely into powder. In a mortar, separately grind Gleditsiae Fructus with strong rice vinegar to form a paste. Mix this paste with the powder and apply to the affected area.
Another prescription:
Boswelliae Resina (Xunlu Xiang, Frankincense) - 1 fen
Sulfur (Liuhuang) - 1 fen
Grind the above ingredients together uniformly. Apply to the flesh thorn, then cauterize with a heated hairpin for efficacy.
Another prescription:
Porcine Fat (Zhuzhou) - 1 liang
Pini Resina (Baijiao Xiang, Pine Rosin) - 1 fen
Grind the above ingredients together into a ointment. First, pierce the thorn site to clean it, then apply this medication.
Another prescription:
White resin from cypress trees (Baishu Shang Baijiao) - 1 liang
Pini Resina (Songzhi, Pine Resin) - 1 liang
Beeswax (Huangla) - 0.5 liang
Melt the above ingredients over fire into an ointment. Apply to the lesion and secure with bandages. It will naturally protrude and fall off the next day.
Another prescription:
Bufo Venenum (Chansu, Toad Venom) - five slices (soaked in warm water)
Calomelas (Nifen, Calomel) - 1 qian
Place the Bufo Venenum in a small cup and mix uniformly with Calomelas. First, puncture the head of the thorn with a needle, then apply the medicine. Wrap tightly for efficacy.
Prescription for chronic flesh thorns that do not heal:
Pini Resina (Songzhi, Pine Resin) - 1 sheng
Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang, Frankincense) - 1 fen
Grind both ingredients into a fine powder. First, puncture with a needle, then apply the medicine. Seal tightly for efficacy.
Prescription for hardened flesh thorns:
Puncture the lesion with a needle. Apply egg white (Jizi Bai) two or three times; it will naturally fall off with efficacy.
Another prescription:
Grind white mustard seeds (Baijiezi) into powder. Mix with vinegar and apply. Bind with cloth. After one night, remove it the next day; it will naturally fall off.
Another prescription:
Apply sheep brain marrow (Yangnaosui) to the area; immediate efficacy is observed.
Another prescription:
Apply black fungus (Heimuer) to the area; it will resolve spontaneously.
Another prescription:
Scrape the surface of the thorn gently. Mix fresh fermented wine (Xinshu Jiu) with sheep brain marrow and apply overnight for cure.
The condition known as "fox urine thorn" (Huniaoci) is said to occur when urine from wild foxes lands on thorny plants. Contact with these plants often injures human fingers or toes, causing swelling, pain, and heat. Sometimes the toxic qi remains localized without spreading. However, those suffering from this toxicity may not necessarily have been injured by fox urine thorns; it is likely due to malignant toxic vapors. Hence, medical texts also refer to it as "malignant thorn toxin" (Ecici Du).
Prescription for treating injuries from fox urine thorns with swelling and pain:
Melt Beeswax (Huangla) into liquid. Check that the temperature is appropriate, then drip onto the swollen and painful area.
Prescription for treating injuries from fox urine thorns causing day-and-night dry pain and insomnia:
Take the stems, leaves, and roots of Taraxaci Herba (Pugongcao, Dandelion). Crush and squeeze to obtain the white juice. Apply frequently for cure.
Another prescription:
Take good-quality Fermented Soybean (Douchi Xin), chew thoroughly, and apply to the affected area. Inspect the soybean after a short while; hairs should appear. If none are seen, chew more soybeans and apply again. The condition resolves once all hairs are expelled.
Another prescription:
Grind Semen Pruni Armeniacae (Xingren, Apricot Seed) finely. Boil for one or two boils. While hot, soak the stung area. Change frequently.
Prescription for treating injuries from fox urine thorns with unbearable pain:
Take Radix Trichosanthis (Gualugen, Trichosanthes Root) and Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi) in equal parts. Pound into a cake and apply to the area. Replace when dry.
