The Lung governs Qi internally and corresponds to the skin and hair externally. If Lung Qi is deficient, pathogenic factors may attack, leading to obstruction of the meridians and collaterals (Jingluo), stagnation of the Zang-Fu organs, and accumulation of phlegm-fluid in the chest and diaphragm.
For symptoms such as facial and eye swelling, cough with irritability and heat, stagnation in the heart and abdomen, chest fullness, and shortness of breath caused by Lung Qi dysfunction, the Yuliren San (Prunus Japonica Powder) formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Yuliren (Semen Pruni Japonicae, 1 liang, soaked in hot water, peel and remove seeds, lightly stir-fried); Hanfangji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, 1 liang); Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark, 1 liang); Beimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, 1 liang, roasted until slightly yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients and sieve them into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 6 fen of liquid remains. Strain and take warm at any time. Avoid cold foods, chicken, fish, garlic, and alliums.
For symptoms where excessive Lung Qi attacks the head, face, and limbs causing edema, rebellious phlegm in the chest and diaphragm, and inability to eat, the Zeqi San (Euphorbia Lathyris Powder) formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Zeqi (Herba Euphorbiae Thymifoliae, 1 liang); Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii, 2 liang); Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, 1 liang, soaked in hot water, peel and remove seeds, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow); Xuanfuhua (Flos Inulae, 3 qian); Qianhu (Radix Peucedani, 3 qian, remove rhizome, stir-fried between papers until yellow); Ziwan (Radix Asteris Tatarici, 3 qian, remove stems and soil, stir-fried until slightly yellow).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients and sieve them into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 6 fen of liquid remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For symptoms of generalized flaccid edema due to Lung Qi invasion, where pressing leaves an indentation, stagnation of Heart Qi, and difficulty in urination and defecation resembling fluid retention disease, the Chifuling San (Poria Cocos with Red Bark Powder) formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark, 1 liang); Hanfangji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, 1 liang); Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 1.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried); Binglang (Semen Arecae, 3 qian); Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 liang, remove stems); Jupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 liang, soaked in hot water, remove white pith and dried).
