When the zang-fu organs are weak and qi and blood are insufficient, wind-cold pathogenic factors will injure the lungs. The lungs govern qi; the movement of qi circulates through the meridians and collaterals. If lung qi is deficient, external pathogens easily invade, causing true qi to contend with pathogenic qi. This results in coughing and rebellious qi, aversion to cold, scattered and lost voice, dizziness, vertigo, and excessive nasal discharge.
For treating external wind-cold injuring the lungs, presenting with head and eye discomfort and excessive nasal discharge, Gui Xin San (Cinnamon Heart Powder) is suitable.
Gui Xin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 3 fen), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 3 fen), Nong Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 1 liang, remove coarse bark, apply ginger juice, roast until fragrant and cooked), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, remove rhizome head).
Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium).
Fu Ling (Poria, 3 fen, remove skin and pits, stir-bran fry double kernels).
Grind the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan of water, half a fen of fresh ginger, and three jujubes. Decoct until one-sixth remains, strain, and drink while slightly warm at any time. Avoid raw, cold, pork, fish, and greasy foods.
