The Lung is located above the diaphragm, in close proximity to the Heart. The Heart governs Blood, while the Lung governs Qi. Qi and Blood follow each other, circulating between the exterior and interior. If pathogenic heat and toxins accumulate in the Zang-Fu organs over a long period, leading to Lung Qi stagnation with heat and persistent hemoptysis (coughing up blood), it is appropriate to take Honglanhua San (Red Flower Powder).
Honglanhua (Carthamus tinctorius Flos) (1 liang), Xijiao xie (Rhinocerotis Cornu Fragmenta) (3 fen), Maogen (Imperatae Rhizoma) (3 fen, sliced), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) (3 fen, core removed), Fulonggan (Caulis Longii) (0.5 jin, soaked in 5 large bowls of water, filtered to extract juice).
The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted with one bowl of the water used to soak Fulonggan, plus 1 fen of Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam), until reduced to 6 fen. Strain the dregs and take warm at any time.
For treating Lung Qi stagnation with heat and persistent hemoptysis, it is appropriate to take Ciji San (Thistle Powder).
Ciji (Cirsii Japonici Herba) (0.5 liang), Chuan Shengma (Bupleuri Radix) (0.5 liang), Lujiaojiao (Corneus Cervi Colla) (0.5 liang, pounded and stir-fried until yellow and dry), Lingyangjiao xie (Saigae Tataricae Cornu Fragmenta) (0.5 liang), Qingzhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam) (0.5 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (0.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 fen, raw).
The above ingredients are pounded and sifted into a powder. Decoct all with 2.5 large bowls of water until reduced to 1.5 bowls. Strain the dregs and divide into five warm doses, taken at any time.
For treating Lung Zang stagnation with heat causing hemoptysis accompanied by irritability and oppression in the heart and diaphragm, it is appropriate to take Tianzhu Huang San (Calami Powder).
Tianzhu Huang (Calamus) (Note: In Song dynasty texts, often refers to Bambusae Tabulae Semen or related product, here likely Calamus or similar aromatic herb depending on context, but standard WHO term for Tianzhu Huang is Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma or Bambusae Tabulae Semen; given the list, it stands alone), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (radicle removed), Ce Baiye (Biota Top Leaf) (lightly roasted), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (sliced and lightly stir-fried), Lujiao xie (Corneus Cervi Fragmenta), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (sliced), Chi Fuling (Poria cum Risus) (Note: "Chi" implies red Poria, usually just Fuling), Madouling (Aristolochiae Fructus) (all 0.5 liang each), Lujiaojiao (Corneus Cervi Colla) (1 liang, pounded and stir-fried until yellow and dry).
The above ingredients are finely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is taken at any time, mixed with warm Sheng Dihuang Zhi (Juice of Rehmanniae Radix) and taken with 1 qian.
For treating Lung Qi stagnation with heat causing rebellious Qi and hemoptysis, it is appropriate to take Puhuang San (Lygodii Pollen Powder).
Puhuang (Lygodii Spora) (3 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (0.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (0.5 liang, radicle removed), Tianmendong (Asparagi Tuber) (0.5 liang, core removed and baked), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) (0.5 liang, baked until yellow and dry).
The above ingredients are finely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is taken at any time, mixed with Zhou Yin (rice drink) and taken with 1 qian.
For treating Lung Qi stagnation with heat, followed by cough, consumptive disease (Xu Lao), and weakness after hemoptysis, it is appropriate to take Baihua Jian (Hundred Flowers Decoction/Paste).
Bai Mi (White Honey) (5 he), Sheng Dihuang Zhi (Juice of Rehmanniae Radix) (3 he), Sheng Jiang Zhi (Juice of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (1 he), Huang Niu Ru (Bovis Lac) (5 he), Ou Zhi (Nelumbinis Nuciferae Rhizoma Juice) (3 he), Qin Jiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) (1 liang, soaked in water, skin removed).
The above ingredients are finely pounded and sieved into a powder. Combined with honey, the various juices, and dried persimmons, they are placed in a silver pot and slowly boiled into a paste. Store separately in a container. Each dose is taken at any time, mixed with Zhou Yin (rice drink) and taken with one tea spoon.
For treating extreme Lung Qi stagnation with heat, Lung distension with wheezing, and persistent hemoptysis, this formula is appropriate.
Sheng Ou Zhi (Juice of Nelumbinis Nuciferae Rhizoma) (2 he), Sheng Dihuang Zhi (Juice of Rehmanniae Radix) (2 he), Ciji Gen Zhi (Juice of Cirsii Japonici Radix) (2 he), Niubang Gen Zhi (Juice of Arctii Radix) (2 he), Sheng Mi (Raw Honey) (1 he), Sheng Jiang Zhi (Juice of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (0.5 he).
Mix the above juices evenly. Each dose is one small bowl, taken warm at any time.
Another formula.
Huangming Jiao (Colla Corneus) (1 liang, pounded and stir-fried until yellow and dry), Sang Ye (Mori Folium) (1 liang), Fulonggan (Caulis Longii) (1.5 liang).
The above ingredients are finely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is taken at any time, mixed with Nuomi Zhou Yin (glutinous rice drink) and taken with 1 qian.
Another formula.
Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (4 liang, pounded to extract juice), Lujiaojiao (Corneus Cervi Colla) (1 liang, pounded, stir-fried until yellow and dry, then powdered).
Take the above ingredients with one bowl of Tongzi Xiaoniao (urine of a healthy young boy). In a silver vessel, add the Dihuang juice and collagen powder, stir well, boil for three boils, and divide into three warm doses.
