The Lung governs Qi. Qi belongs to Yang; when Yang is excessive, heat arises. Furthermore, if the Qi and Blood of the Zang-Fu organs are abundant but heat toxins accumulate internally for a long time, it leads to vexation and fullness in the chest and diaphragm, dryness of the mouth and tongue, and stagnation of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) preventing its smooth flow. This causes Lung congestion and the generation of heat.
