Qi of cold deficiency in the Kidney arises from insufficient Kidney Qi, long-standing cold in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), exterior deficiency of Yang Qi, and interior accumulation of Yin Qi. The pathogenic cold qi accumulates within the Zang-Fu organs without dispersing, attacking upwards towards the Spleen. When the deficient Spleen is affected by this, distension occurs; when cold combats the Yin meridians, pain results. Furthermore, the branch meridians of the Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) channel run along both hypochondriac regions. Now that both the Kidney and Spleen are deficient and attacked by pathogenic cold, causing righteous Qi to clash with pathogenic Qi, abdominal and hypochondriac pain and distension ensue.
For treating cold deficiency in the Kidney, where Qi attacks causing abdominal and hypochondriac pain, accompanied by frequent vomiting, loss of appetite, distension in both hypochondriac regions, and emaciation of the four limbs, Chenxiang San (Agarwood Powder) is suitable.
