The tongue is the external indicator of the Heart. The Qi of the Heart connects to the tongue and governs Blood. If the Zang-Fu organs are obstructed and stagnant, and Qi and Blood are excessive, then the meridians will be blocked, and the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi will fail to circulate.
Prescription for sudden bleeding from the tongue, resembling pinpricks:
Sheng Gan Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 3 liang) Lu Jiao Jiao (Colla Cornus Cervi, 1-2 liang, crushed and stir-fried until yellow and dry).
Crush the above ingredients and sieve them into a fine powder. After meals, take 2 qian with rice gruel beverage.
Another prescription:
Ba Dou (Fructus Crotonis Tiglii, 1 seed, burnt to ash) Luan Fa (Human Hair, size of a chicken egg, burnt to ash).
Grind the above ingredients together evenly. Mix with wine and take all at once.
Another prescription:
Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 0.5 liang, remove stamens) Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri, 0.5 liang) Zhi Zi Ren (Semen Gardeniae, 14 seeds).
Finely chop the above ingredients. Soak in one large cup of wine overnight. In the morning, boil for three to five boils. Strain the dregs. When warm, take all at once.
Prescription for blackening of the tongue, bleeding from multiple pores like a gushing spring, accompanied by heart and abdominal pain:
Rong Yan (Natrii Sulfas) Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae) Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri, remove coarse bark and chop) Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, chopped and slightly stir-fried) Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, remove rhizome) Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, raw and chopped) Gui Xin (Lignum Cinnamomi Cassiae Medullatum).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into powder. Mix with refined honey to make pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 20 pills with warm rice gruel beverage. [Text fragmentary]
Prescription for sudden bleeding from the tongue, resembling pinpricks:
Concentrated decoction of Xiang [Kun] juice. Take one medium cup, three times daily.
Another prescription:
Use Dou Chi (Faba Fermentata, 1 sheng) and water (5 sheng). Boil to obtain 2 sheng. Strain. Take one small cup, warm.
Prescription for bleeding from the tongue like a spring:
Heat an iron chopstick until red-hot and cauterize the bleeding pores; this is effective.
If Ying and Wei Qi are severely deficient, and the Zang-Fu organs are damaged, with blood vessels empty and exhausted, due to uncontrolled anger or excessive fright and indignation, violent Qi becomes confused and overflows, causing the couli (pores/skin texture) to open and blood vessels to scatter. Cases where there is bleeding from the nine orifices, wheezing, coughing, and rebellious Qi, with a rapid pulse and heat sensation, and inability to lie down, are difficult to treat.
Prescription for bleeding from the nine orifices and between the fingers/toes:
Qing Zhu Ru (Bambusa Textilis Caulis Viridis, 0.5 liang) Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Recens, 1 liang, finely cut) Pu Huang (Pollen Typhae, 0.5 liang).
Add one large cup of water, decoct until reduced to six-tenths. Strain. Take warm after meals.
Another prescription:
Pu Huang (Pollen Typhae, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried) Long Gu (Os Draconis, 1 liang, burnt until red).
Grind the above ingredients finely into a powder. Take 2 qian mixed with rice gruel beverage.
Prescription for sudden bleeding from the nine orifices caused by acute fright:
Take the umbilical skin of a newborn calf that has not yet eaten grass and fell to the ground. Dry it in the sun and grind into powder. Take 1 qian mixed with water. Take four to five times daily until cured.
Another prescription:
Use Jing Hua Shui (Well Water drawn at dawn). Suddenly splash it onto the face of the patient without letting them know beforehand. The bleeding will stop.
Another prescription:
Mix Sheng Di Huang Juice (Radix Rehmanniae Recens Juice, 1 sheng) and Sheng Jiang Juice (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens Juice, 1 sheng). Take one small cup warm, four to five times daily.
