Zhu disease, the term "Zhu" implies staying or remaining. It refers to a condition characterized by the lingering and stagnation of pathogenic factors. Symptoms include a sensation of wandering on the skin and pain without a fixed location. This is caused by constitutional deficiency allowing wind pathogens to invade; the pathogenic factors lodge in the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) levels and wander along with the Qi flow, hence it is called Wind Zhu.
To treat Wind Zhu, as well as five types of foul qi wandering across the back, flowing into the four limbs, moving ceaselessly, accompanied by shortness of breath and a sense of impending death, the U Tou San Powder is suitable.
Ingredients: Chuan Wu Tou (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), one tael, processed until cracked, peel removed, umbilicus removed; Chi Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), one tael; Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), one tael, cut into small pieces and slightly stir-fried; Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), half a tael, processed until cracked and cut into small pieces; Gui Xin (Cortex Cinnamomi), one tael; Xi Xin (Herba Asari), one tael; Sheng Gan Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), one tael; Wu Zhu Yu (Fructus Evodiae), half a tael, soaked in hot water seven times, dried and slightly stir-fried; Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), one tael, honey-processed until slightly reddish.
The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of three qian. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to six fen, remove the dregs. Take warm at any time.
To treat Wind Zhu where the pathogen enters the skin causing a sensation like insects crawling, lower back pain with stiffness, conditions of "five slackness and six tension" (simultaneous flaccidity and spasticity), spasms of hands and feet, urticaria that becomes ulcerated upon scratching, and symptoms related to Feng Shi body invasion.
Ingredients: Xi Xin (Herba Asari), two taels and half (note: one tael); Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), one tael, radix tip removed; Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), two taels (note: one tael), processed until cracked and cut into small pieces; Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), one tael; Gui Xin (Cortex Cinnamomi), note: one tael; Nan Xing (Tuber Arisaematis Cum Bile), note: one tael; Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), [text missing].
The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of three qian. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to six fen, remove the dregs. Take warm at any time.
To treat toxic vapors of Wind Zhu and conditions attributed to possession by cat ghosts (a superstitious concept referring to attachment by evil spirits), the Zhen Zhu San Powder is suitable.
Ingredients: Zhen Zhu (Margarita), half a tael, finely ground; Xiong Huang (Realgar), half a tael, finely ground; Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), half a tael, finely ground; Xi Xin (Herba Asari), one tael; Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), half a tael, processed until cracked and cut into small pieces; Chuan Jiao (Pericarpium Zanthoxyli), half a tael [text fragment]; Zhi Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), feet removed [text missing]; Mang Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae) [text missing].
