When jaundice is accompanied by dysuria and astringency, it is caused by accumulated heat residing in the Heart (Xin) and flowing into the Small Intestine (Xiao Chang), resulting in scanty, astringent urination with passage of sand-like substances and significant pain.
For treating heat obstruction in the Heart and Spleen (Pi), manifesting as generalized yellowing of the skin, flesh, face, and eyes, irritability, and red, astringent urine, use the Maogen San (White Reed Rhizome Powder).
Bai Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 2 liang, cut); Qin Jiao (Gentianae Radix, 1 liang, remove seedlings); Xi Jiao Xie (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 3 fen); Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 liang, remove heart); Chuan Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 liang, cut into pieces, slightly stir-fried); Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang); Chi Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 3 fen); Chuan Pu Xiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 liang).
Crush the above ingredients coarsely and sieve them to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhong zhan of water until reduced to 0.6 zhong zhan, filter out the dregs, and take warm. Administer again after walking for ten li, stopping when bowel movements become unobstructed.
For treating Heart Jaundice with accumulated heat, presenting with generalized yellowing of the face, eyes, and limbs, dry heaving, constipation, red and astringent urine, abdominal pain, and mental restlessness, use the Mutong San (Akebia Caulis Powder).
Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 liang, cut); Chuan Mu Huang (likely referring to a specific preparation or variant, 1.5 liang, cut into pieces, slightly stir-fried); Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, 0.5 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow, remove pith); Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 0.5 liang); Chi Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 1 liang); Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, 1.5 liang, remove rhizome head); Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 3 fen); Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen, 3 fen); Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red, cut); Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 3 fen, washed seven times in hot water to remove acridity).
Crush the above ingredients coarsely and sieve them to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one da zhan of water plus 0.5 ban of fresh ginger, until reduced to 0.5 da zhan, filter out the dregs, and take warm at any time, stopping when both urination and defecation become unobstructed.
For treating jaundice with red, astringent urine and mental agitation, use the Qu Mai San (Fagopyri Dibotryis Herba Powder).
Qu Mai (Fagopyri Dibotryis Herba, 1 liang); Yin Chen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, 1 liang); Chuan Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 liang, cut into pieces, slightly stir-fried); Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang); Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen, 1 liang); Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1.5 liang, remove heart).
