The branch meridian of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (Hand-Yangming Da Chang Jing) enters the teeth. When wind pathogen (Feng Xie) lodges in the meridians, it flows and stagnates at the tooth roots, causing swelling, suppuration, and discharge of pus. After healing, it recurs repeatedly; this is called Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay).
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay), with symptoms of pus and blood discharge, gingival recession exposing the tooth necks, foul breath, and inability to eat, use Ji Ci San (Acanthopanax Powder).
Herbs: Acanthi Spina (Ji Ci, 棘刺, half liang, calcined to ash), Celosiae Semen (Qingxiangzi, 青葙子, three liang), Angelicae Radix Sinensis (Danggui, 当归), Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum (Ganjiang, 干姜, processed until cracked and chopped), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Changpu, 菖蒲), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfuzi, 香附子), Cardamomi Fructus (Jitixiang, 鸡舌香), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a fine powder. Each time, take half qian of the powder, wrap it in cotton, bite it against the affected area, swallow the saliva, and continue until cured.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay), with sores growing on the gums accompanied by swelling and pain, use Hutonglei San (Tamarix Powder).
Herbs: Tamaricis Ramulus (Hutonglei, 胡桐泪, one liang, calcined red and finely ground), Cupri Sulfas (Shidan, 石胆, one liang, finely ground), Ferri Sulphas Flavus (Huangfan, 黄矾, one liang, calcined to ash and ground), Aloe (Luhui, 芦荟, one liang, finely ground), Cinnabaris Lucida (Guangmingsha, 光明砂, half liang, finely ground), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香, one fen, finely ground), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Chuan Shengma, 川升麻, one liang), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛, three fen), Hairs (Luankou, 乱发).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a fine powder, add the already ground medicines, and grind them uniformly again. For each application, first rinse the mouth thoroughly with Licorice Decoction (Gancao Tang), then apply the medicine to the affected area.
If saliva is produced, spit it out. Apply three times daily until cured.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay) with continuous discharge of pus and water, use Qingdai San (Indigo Naturalis Powder).
Herbs: Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai, 青黛, half liang), Bufo Venenum (Xiamu, 虾蟆, one piece, calcined to ash), Tamaricis Ramulus (Hutonglei, 胡桐泪, half liang), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香, one fen), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huhuanglian, 胡黄连, half liang), Aloe (Luhui, 芦荟, half liang).
Grind the above herbs together in a mortar into a powder. Each time, take half qian and apply it to the affected area.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay) caused by worms eroding the gums leading to rot and foul odor, use Shexiang San (Moschus Powder).
Herops: Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香), Cupri Sulfas Viridis (Qingfan, 青矾, calcined red), Ferri Sulphas Flavus (Huangfan, 黄矾, calcined red), Alum (Baifan, 白矾, calcined to ash, one fen each), Aloe (Luhui, 芦荟, half liang), Bufonis Ash (Xiamahui, 虾蟆灰, half liang).
Grind the above herbs together in a mortar into a fine powder. First, wipe the gums with cotton to remove bad blood, then apply the medicine using a wet paper patch.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay) with gingival recession, Gu Cao Feng (Bone Channel Wind/Alveolar Osteitis), and continuous pus and blood discharge, use Dingxiang San (Clove Powder).
Herbs: Caryophylli Flos (Dingxiang, 丁香, one fen), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Sheng Dihuang, 生地黄, five liang, sliced with a bamboo knife and fried in a copper vessel until black and white), Dried Bufo Venenum (Gan Xiamu, 干虾蟆, one fen, roasted), Datura Semen (Langdangzi, 莨菪子, half liang).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a fine powder. Every night, apply the medicine onto a wet paper patch, sized to fit the affected gum area, and paste it there. Spit out any saliva produced.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay), use Tongqing San (Verdigris Powder).
Herbs: Verdigris (Tongqing, 铜青, one liang), Centipedae Herba (Gujingcao, 谷精草, two qian), Arsenic Trioxide (Pishuang, 砒霜, half qian), Portulacae Herba Ash (Machixianhui, 马齿苋灰, one liang).
Grind all the above herbs finely in a mortar. Before going to bed, rinse the mouth three to five times with hot grain water, then take a small amount of the medicine with your finger and rub it onto the gums. Keep the mouth closed for a while. When the mouth is full of saliva, spit it out. Rinse the mouth three to five times as before, then reapply the medicine. Use three to five times a day until cured.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay) with worm erosion causing tooth pain and continuous pus discharge, use Yanyu San (Green Vitriol Powder).
Herbs: Green Vitriol (Yanyu, 盐绿), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香, finely ground), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连, de-stemmed, one fen each), Cupri Sulfas (Shidan, 石胆, one qian).
Grind the above herbs together in a mortar into a fine powder. Each time, take an amount equivalent to one zi (a very small measure) of the powder, sprinkle it on a wet paper patch, and apply it. Apply two to three times daily. It will be cured within ten days.
To treat Chi Lou Gan (Tooth Fistula and Decay) with gingival recession and pus/blood discharge, use Jiyu San (Crucian Carp Powder).
Herbs: Large Crucian Carp (Dayuji, 大鲫鱼, one fish), Arsenic Trioxide (Pishuang, 砒霜, one fen), Dried Rehmanniae Radix Powder (Gan Dihuangmo, 干地黄末, one liang).
First, cut open the belly of the crucian carp, remove the intestines, insert the arsenic trioxide and dried rehmannia powder, wrap the fish in paper, and burn it in fire until the smoke ceases. Take it out and remove the paper...
