The branch of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian enters the teeth. The teeth are the extremity of the bones and rely on the nourishment of the body's Qi and Blood. If Wind-Cold pathogenic factors invade the meridians, damaging the bone marrow, and cold qi enters the tooth roots, it will cause toothache. If the pain is caused by dental caries (worm-eaten teeth), there will be holes at the tooth roots where the "worms" reside; in this case, acupuncture and moxibustion will not be effective, but applying external medication can kill the worms.
