Metallic wounds (trauma caused by metal sharp objects) resulting in blood loss cause the patient to suffer from extreme thirst. At this time, one must endure the thirst and frequently consume dry foods; fatty and oily substances may be given to quench the thirst. One must not drink excessive amounts of porridge or gruel, as this may cause blood to overflow, leading to death. Additionally, one should avoid anger, loud talking and laughing, sexual thoughts and activities, and physical labor. Consuming salty or sour foods, drinking alcohol, or eating hot soups and cold, hard foods may result in death.
When injured by metallic weapons, the wound often undergoes various changes. If pressing the edges of the wound feels dry and tight, with no muscle regeneration, and yellowish-green fluid oozes out, while the wound edges feel cold and painful, and the flesh wastes away and rots with a foul odor, initially bleeding red blood followed by black blood resembling cooked rot, or if white fluid accompanies the blood, these signs are generally ominous. If the collateral vessels are damaged, particularly in the inner thigh and groin area, and excessive blood loss leads to a faint and slow pulse, survival is possible; however, if the pulse is rapid and urgent, death ensues.
The Great Powder for Treating Metallic Wounds:
On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month at dawn, send four people to the four directions (East, West, South, North). Within five li of each direction, collect stems and leaves of herbs from that specific quadrant. Take half a handful of each type, ensuring no plant is missed. Smoke the collected herbs with mulberry branches. When applied immediately after injury, this method treats metallic wounds, repels external wind, and stops pain.
Danggui San (Angelica Powder):
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Ban Liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, Ban Liang, remove eyes and closed-mouth peppers, lightly stir-fried to remove moisture), Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, Ban Liang), Xiongqiong (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome, Yi Liang), Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root, Yi Liang, processed until cracked, peel and remove umbilicus).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder and sift. For metallic wounds with broken bones and stasis, take one Qian mixed with warm wine. Take three to four times daily until symptoms cease.
For treating metallic wounds, stopping pain, and repelling wind: Ganjiang San (Dry Ginger Powder):
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, Yi Liang, processed until cracked and crushed), Gancao (Licorice Root, Yi Liang, honey-fried until slightly reddish and crushed), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig, Yi Liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Liang Er, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Xiongqiong (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome, Si Liang), Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, Liang Er, remove eyes and closed-mouth peppers, lightly stir-fried to remove moisture).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder and sift. Take one Qian mixed with warm wine at any time.
For unbearable pain after arrow extraction: Tadan Wan (Badger Gall Pill):
Tadan (Badger Gall), Zhudan (Pig Gall), Likedan (Carp Gall) (one of each, combined together), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Gualougen (Trichosanthes Radix), Moyao (Myrrha) (one Fen each), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Ban Fen, crushed and lightly stir-fried).
Grind the solid ingredients into powder, mix thoroughly with the gallbladder juices, place in a porcelain box, seal, and store for seven days before use. Take one pill, size of a small bean, and insert it into the arrow wound as needed; pain will stop immediately.
To treat metallic wounds, repel all wind-cold, reconnect sinews and bones, generate flesh, and stop bleeding with immediate effect:
Duanshi (Calcined Iron Slag) [Yi Er Sheng, pounded, mixed with juice of fresh Shengdi Huang and Qinghao, formed into balls, baked until red, then finely ground], Xiongqiong (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome), Aye (Mugwort Leaf, roasted until yellow), Goutouhui (Ash of Dog Head, finely ground), Disong (Lichen), Miduoseng (Lead Monoxide) (each Ban Liang), Huangdan (Red Lead, Yi Liang), Qilin Xue (Kylin Blood/Resin, San Fen, finely ground).
Grind all ingredients into powder, mix uniformly, and seal tightly. Apply to metallic wounds upon occurrence for immediate effect.
Fa Lian Duanshi San (Method-Refined Calcined Iron Slag Powder) for stopping bleeding, relieving pain, repelling wind, reconnecting sinews and bones, and generating flesh:
Disong (Lichen), Dihuang Miao (Seedling of Rehmannia Root), Qinghao (Artemisia Annua Herb), Cang'er Miao (Seedling of Xanthium Fruit), Chi Shaoyao (Red Peony Root) (each Wu Liang, pounded and ground, add a little water, decoct thickly, and change water/juice repeatedly), Duanshi (Calcined Iron Slag, San Sheng, new), Sheng Ai Zhi (Fresh Mugwort Juice, San He). Select the fifth day of the fifth lunar month or the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. Perform the preparation in sunlight. Mix the previous herbal juices with Duanshi until the liquid is absorbed. Once dry, grind Huangdan into it until uniform. Seal tightly. Apply to metallic wounds as needed; bleeding stops immediately.
Another Prescription:
Xin Duanshi (New Calcined Iron Slag, Er Sheng), Qinghao (Artemisia Annua Herb, Jin Yi, chopped), Aye (Mugwort Leaf, Jin Yi, chopped).
First pound Qinghao and Aye, wring out thick juice, and mix with Duanshi until absorbed. Sun-dry, then grind and add Huangdan and Tujuan Baizhu (Turban Atractylodes Rhizome) each San Liang. Mix uniformly. Seal and apply to metallic wounds; highly effective for stopping bleeding.
Another Prescription:
Xingren (Apricot Seed, peeled and pounded into paste), Duanshi (Calcined Iron Slag, equal parts).
Grind together. For use, mix with pig fat and apply. Apply two to three times daily until healed.
Another Prescription:
Burn green cloth to ash, apply to the wound, bandage securely. Heal within several days.
Another Prescription:
Take She Xian Cao (Hydrophyllum Japonicum), pound thoroughly, apply to the wound, and bandage. Heal within several days.
Another Prescription:
Take Ye Lang Ya Cao (Wild Wolf's Tooth Herb), pound the stems and leaves thoroughly, and apply.
Another Prescription:
On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, prepare Ge Gen (Kudzu Root) beforehand, pound into extremely fine powder, store in a sealed container. Apply to wounds as needed; stops bleeding and pain immediately.
Another Prescription:
Take Wu Zhang Gen (Evodia Root), sun-dry, pound into fine powder, apply thinly to the wound; miraculous effect.
Another Prescription:
Take Zi Tan Mo (Sandalwood Powder), apply to the wound; stops pain and bleeding, generates flesh; very effective.
For metallic wounds or severed muscles:
Peel fresh Sang Pi (Mulberry Bark), use as thread to suture the wound. Wrap the wound with fresh mulberry bark, then smear with Sang Bai Zhi (Mulberry Bark Juice). Highly effective. For minor wounds, wrapping with mulberry bark alone suffices. For severed sinews, apply pounded Xuan Fu Gen (Inula Root); they will reconnect.
Mu Li San (Oyster Shell Powder) for stopping pain in metallic wounds:
Mu Li (Oyster Shell, Ban Liang), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, Yi Fen).
Pound and grind finer. Mix with refined pig fat to form a paste. Apply to the wound; pain stops immediately.
Zige Tang (Purple Kudzu Decoction) for generating flesh, breaking stasis, and repairing damage in metallic wounds:
Zige (Purple Kudzu Root, Liang Er, finely ground).
Decoct in three Da Jian of flowing river water until one Wan Five remains. Strain. Take three warm doses before meals. Decocting with wine is also excellent.
For knife cuts and axe wounds:
Take black felt, burn to ash, grind finely, apply to the injured area, bandage securely without moving, until new flesh grows.
For stopping pain in metallic wounds:
Burn horse hooves to ash, grind extremely fine. Take two Qian mixed with warm wine at any time.
