Pain in the heart and abdomen arises from cold pathogens invading the space between the Zang and Fu organs, clashing with Qi and Blood. Following the movement of Qi up and down, these pathogens attack the heart and abdomen, causing pain. This condition is due to deficiency of the organ Qi, allowing pathogenic factors to prevail.
To treat heart and abdominal pain caused by pathogenic attacks, apply the Tao Ren Zhou (Peach Kernel Porridge) formula.
Ingredients: Tao Ren (Peach Kernel, 21 pieces, skin and tips removed), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 1 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 1 liang, powdered), Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Germen, 3 he), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 fen).
Preparation: First, boil Jing Mi in water to make porridge. Then add the juice extracted from Tao Ren and other ingredients. Continue cooking until done. Mix in the Gui Xin powder and consume on an empty stomach.
For stabbing pain, abdominal distension, and fullness caused by cold Qi in the heart, apply the Bi Bo Zhou (Long Pepper Porridge) formula.
Ingredients: Bi Bo (Long Pepper Fruit, 1 fen), Hu Jiao (Black Pepper Fruit), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed until cracked and chopped), Bing Lang (Arecae Semen, each 1 fen), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 1 fen), Su Mi (Panicum Miliaceum, 3 he).
Preparation: Pound and sieve the above five herbs into powder. Use two large jin of water to cook Su Mi into porridge. When the rice is cooked, add three qian of the herbal powder, stir well, and consume daily on an empty stomach.
For pulling pain and distension in the heart and abdomen caused by cold Qi entering the heart, apply the Wu Zhu Yu Zhou (Evodiae Fructus Porridge) formula.
Ingredients: Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, half a liang, soaked in decoction seven times, dried, lightly fried, and powdered); Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Germen, one or two he).
Preparation: Cook porridge using Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and Chi Dou Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum). Once cooked, add two qian of Wu Zhu Yu powder, stir evenly, and consume on an empty stomach.
For knotted pain in the heart and abdomen caused by cold Qi, which may be triggered by wind-cold exposure or consumption of raw and cold foods, apply the Gao Liang Jiang Zhou (Galangal Porridge) formula.
Ingredients: Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, half a liang, chopped), Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Germen, two he), Chen Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Vetus, half a fen, soaked in decoction, white pith removed, and powdered).
Preparation: Decoct Gao Liang Jiang and Chen Ju Pi in three large jin of water to obtain one and a half jin of liquid. Strain out the dregs, add the liquid to the rice to cook porridge, and consume on an empty stomach.
For cold Qi-induced pain in the heart and abdomen accompanied by distension and inability to eat, apply the Zi Su Zhou (Perillae Fructus Porridge) formula.
Ingredients: Zi Su Zi (Perillae Fructus, one he, lightly fried), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, powdered, two qian).
Preparation: Crush Zi Su Zi, extract juice by pressing through two large jin of water. Add two he of rice to the juice to cook porridge. Once cooked, add Gui Xin powder and consume.
