[Painong Tuoli San (Pus-Discharging and Qi-Supporting Powder)] Treats all kinds of sores, boils, carbuncles, and toxic infections, as well as intestinal abscesses (Chang Yong) and back carbuncles (Bei Ju). Whether the area is red and swollen but unbroken, or already broken with pus and blood failing to discharge, causing unbearable suffering. It also treats women's breast abscesses (Nai Yong) and all types of toxic swellings; this formula is suitable for these conditions.
Diwugong (Scutellaria barbata), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Gancao (Licorice Root) (equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with warm wine, at any time.
[Shengma Heqi Yin (Cimicifuga and Harmonizing Qi Decoction)] Treats limb lesions caused by sores and scabies, frequent pain and itching in the buttocks and thighs, even progressing to aversion to cold, fever, stabbing pain, and infiltrative edema. It also treats dampness and itching in the genital area, tinnitus, and eye pain.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Shu Zhike (Processed Aurantium Fructus), Gange (Kudzu Root), Shu Cangzhu (Processed Atractylodis Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each one liang); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Shu Banxia (Processed Pinellia Tuber), Fuling (Poria).
Cut the above herbs into coarse pieces for decoction. Take four qian per dose, add one and a half zhen of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and fifteen stems of Dengxincao (Junci Medulla), decoct until one-seventh remains, strain, and take before meals.
[Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang (Five-Aromatic and Forsythia Decoction)] Treats various evil nodules (Ehe), scrofula (Luoli), carbuncles, malignant swellings, etc. (From *San Yin Fang*).
Chenxiang (Aquilaria Wood, not roasted), Ruxiang (Frankincense, not roasted, ground), Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), Boshang Qingmuxiang (Imported Blue Sandalwood, not roasted, each one fen), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, amount unspecified, or local Forsythia, approx. two liang), Dahuang (Rhubarb Radix et Rhizoma, steamed, appropriate amount).
Cut the above herbs. Take four qian per dose, add two zhen of water, boil to obtain more than one zhen of liquid, strain, take eight li of the clear juice, and drink hot on an empty stomach. If bowel movement has not occurred after half a day, take another dose. The goal is to evacuate foul matter from the body. It is safe to take before granulation tissue forms, as it reduces heat-toxic qi. This formula originally included Zhuli (Bamboo Sap) and Mangxiao (Mirabilite), but these were omitted because weak patients might not be able to adjust the dosage appropriately; wise practitioners should add them according to their judgment.
There are many versions of Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang; the version in *San Yin Fang* is considered standard. The *Li Shi Fang* version is preserved here for reference.
Li Shi Fang: Uses Ruxiang, Gancao, Muxiang, Chenxiang, Lianqiao, Shegan (Belamcanda Rhizome), Shengma, Mutong (Akebia Caulis), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Cacumen), Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) each three fen; Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) half a liang. For constipation, add Dahuang three fen. Li Shi omitted Dahuang likely because he feared it was unsuitable for deficient or elderly patients, thus reducing the dosage temporarily.
Another Formula: Qingmuxiang three fen, Sangjisheng two fen, Chenxiang, Mutong, Sheng Huangqi (Raw Astragali Radix), Dahuang each one liang (soaked in wine and roasted), Shexiang (Musk) two qian, Ruxiang, Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Chuan Shengma, Lianqiao each half a liang, Jiti Xiang (Cardamomi Semen) three fen. This formula is identical to those in *San Yin Fang* and *Li Shi Fang*, except it additionally includes Jiti Xiang and Huoxiang.
