Treats the condition after the pus of carbuncles, ulcers, sores, and boils has drained, where external exposure to wind-cold causes swelling and induration, with thin and watery pus that flows incessantly. It addresses the emptiness and deterioration of the interior couli (interstices), dryness and tightness at the wound edges, failure of healthy tissue to regenerate, as well as foul ulcers associated with infantile malnutrition (gan) that linger without healing, downward-flowing sores that are macerated and fail to close.

Treats scrofula (luoli) on the neck, and scrofula developing in the axilla. Initially resembling a plum seed, it presents as swollen, hard, and firm nodules that gradually form a string of beads. It fails to resolve or suppurate, or if it perforates, discharges fluid incessantly. It is difficult to heal over time and may gradually become a fistula. This formula treats all such conditions.
Hupo (Amber), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Songzhi (Pini Resina), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Mugua (Momordicae Semen) [shelled, each 0.5 liang]
First, pound the five herbs—Hupo, Dingxiang (Syzygii Flos), Guixin, Zhusha, and Muxiang—and sieve them into a fine powder. Cut the remaining herbs finely and soak them in oil overnight. Slowly decoct in a vessel until the Baizhi turns scorched yellow, then strain out the residue. Add the powdered Songzhi, filter to remove dregs, and clarify the oil again. Return the clarified oil to the vessel and slowly simmer. Add 1 jin of Huangdan (Lithargyrum), stirring continuously with a willow wood spatula until the mixture turns black. Test by dropping into water; it should form cohesive beads. Adjust consistency until appropriate. Mix in the Hupo powder evenly. Store in a porcelain container. When applying, spread the ointment evenly on paper according to the size required, and apply externally.
