Treats cold damage in all four seasons, presenting with headache and stiff neck, high fever with aversion to cold, body aches and pain, limb fatigue, panting and weakness when walking, as well as nasal congestion with heavy voice, thick and sticky snot and saliva, abundant phlegm and saliva, shortness of breath and chest fullness. All these conditions are suitable for taking this formula.
Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, washed and white pith removed), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed, each 4 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 2 liang).
Grind the above into fine powder. Take two large qian per dose, with one da zhen of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and one Wumei (Mume Fructus). Decoct together until reduced to seven-tenths. Take warm at any time, or mix with tea or wine. To disperse evil wind, add three cun of Lianxu Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus with roots) and decoct together.
Treats external contraction of Wind-Cold and internal injury from raw/cold food, manifesting as aversion to cold with high fever, dizziness and headache, stiffness and tension of limbs. It is effective regardless of whether the syndrome is primarily Wind or Cold. First, cover with a thick quilt and sleep, administer several doses of this medicine continuously, assisted by thin rice gruel, to induce slight sweating in the limbs. After the sweat dries, gradually remove the quilt, carefully avoid external wind, and the pathogen will naturally dissipate. If there was already spontaneous sweating, harmonize using warm and moistening methods; if residual heat remains, regulate slowly with Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction); if headache persists, administer Ru Sheng Bing Zi (Like-Sage Pills) with strongly decocted Shengjiang and Congbai tea. Once these three syndromes are resolved, no further medication is needed; simply regulate diet and adapt to temperature changes, and health will naturally return. Generally, regarding common colds, ancient physicians dared not lightly induce sweating because Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) can open the couli (skin pores and interstices). If used improperly, it may drain true qi, leading to deficiency and generating other syndromes. This medicine is a mild formula that only warms the middle and releases the exterior, without recklessly disturbing the body's equilibrium. It also repels mountainous miasma and pestilential qi. For seasonal epidemics, regular use is especially beneficial.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed seven times in hot water), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, rough bark removed, processed with ginger juice), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked in rice wash overnight, washed, sliced, stir-fried, each 1 liang), [Missing Herb Name] (2.5 qian), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum).
Process the above into coarse pieces (ju). Take 4 qian per dose, with one and a half zhen of water, seven slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and one Wumei (Mume Fructus). Decoct until reduced to six-tenths, strain, and take hot.
Also treats spleen injury caused by dietary excess, leading to malaria; or deficiency-cold in the epigastrium of the Spleen and Stomach causing vomiting and nausea, which can be transformed. In cases of cold malaria, cold epidemic, or aversion to cold, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), which becomes Shi Wei Bu Huan Jin San (Ten-Ingredient Unchanging Gold Powder).
