It is also indicated for Cold Damage (Shanghan) and seasonal epidemics presenting with interior cold and exterior heat, cholera-like syndrome causing severe colic in the heart and abdomen, cold and disordered extremities, fever without thirst, as well as borborygmus, spontaneous diarrhea, and undigested rice and grain in the stool.
Ingredients: Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle), each 20 liang.
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills, making ten pills from one liang of powder. Take one pill before meals, dissolved in boiling water; chewing the pill is also acceptable. Alternatively, pills may be made the size of Sophora japonica seeds (Wu Tong Zi). For patients who have just recovered from a major illness and suffer from excessive sleepiness, or those who are internally deficient after recent childbirth, this formula may also be taken. Regular use warms the Spleen and Stomach, resolves phlegm and fluid retention, smooths the Triple Burner, promotes appetite, and expels pathogenic Wind, Cold, Dampness, and Cold evils.
He Wei Wan (Harmonize the Stomach Pill): Indicated for disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach, Qi stagnation and痞 (blockage) in the Zhongwan region, abdominal distension and oppression, anorexia, vomiting of phlegm and rebellious Qi, belching with acid regurgitation, sallow and emaciated complexion, stabbing pain in the abdomen and hypochondrium, irregular bowel movements, fatigue and drowsiness, heavy body and joint pain. It is also indicated for deficiency exhaustion (Xu Lao) due to Spleen and Stomach weakness, leading to indigestion and痞满 (fullness and blockage). This formula is suitable for all these conditions. Elderly people, children, and those with weak Qi can take it regularly to gently warm the Spleen and Stomach and regulate dietary intake.
Ingredients: Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum). Note: Specific processing methods include stir-frying Hou Po with ginger, processing Ban Xia with turtle blood or water, etc.
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with honey to form pills the size of adzuki beans. Take 20 pills initially, increasing to 30 pills. Chew slightly and swallow with warm water. Time of administration is not restricted.
Zi Su Zi Wan (Perilla Seed Pill): Indicated for various types of rebellious Qi, chest and diaphragmatic oppression, stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, distension and fullness in the hypochondrium, indigestion, nausea and vomiting, cough with痞满, or rushing Qi causing urgency and inability to lie down peacefully.
Ingredients: Zi Su Zi (Perillae Fructus), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the five ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill, chew thoroughly, and swallow with warm wine or rice drink. Time of administration is not restricted. Pills may also be made smaller. If injury occurs from consuming melons, raw fish, or cold foods, manifesting as mixed belching and impending cholera, hold one pill in the mouth to dissolve slowly, swallowing the saliva; recovery will occur immediately upon completion. Regular use prevents cholera entirely, which is highly effective.
