Decoct *Smilax glabra* Rhizome (Tufuling, 土茯苓) in water and take it frequently. Avoid tea for a few days until recovery. Alternatively, eat dozens of cherries (if fresh ones are unavailable, candied cherries are also acceptable; this is considered an immortal prescription).
If treated as Wind-Throat Syndrome (Feng Hou Zheng), the patient will die immediately.
Prescription: One white salted plum (burned to ash while retaining its medicinal nature), one qian of Alum (Kufan, 枯矾), one qian of Pangolin Scales (Chuanshanjia, 穿山甲) (roasted).
If the tongue coating is dark, without redness, constriction, or swelling, breathing is normal, with only slight pain and itching that hinders eating, this indicates such a condition. Acupuncture and tonification are contraindicated.
Take cow dung from a first-born calf, place it on a new tile, cover it with another tile, and heat around the edges using alternating mild and strong fire until the smoke disappears, preserving the medicinal nature (remove together with the tile, cover with a basin, wait for it to cool, then grind into powder), and slowly blow into the throat.
Swelling rises in layers, without pain, and foul odor emerges only after many days.
Decoct leaves of *Murraya paniculata* (Chouju Ye, 臭橘叶) and take several times. Or wrap cotton around the tip of a chopstick, dip it in salt, [insert or apply].
This is not a throat syndrome, but rather a red line growing in the nose, like a hair, suspending a black blister the size of a cherry pit, hanging at the entrance of the throat; contact with a knife or needle causes death.
Urgently take a single, thick, large root of live *Achyranthes bidentata* Root (Tuniuxi, 土牛膝) (available in herbal medicine shops), crush and extract juice, mix with four or five drops of good vinegar, and drip into the nostrils. After two or three applications, the red line breaks and the blister bursts, expelling blood stasis, leading to recovery. Alternatively, prick the purple vein in the middle of the wrist, or prick the Shaoshang acupoint (Shao Shang, 少商穴) (located about the width of a leek leaf on the inner side corner next to the thumbnail of both hands), to release evil blood; this is spiritually effective.
Symptoms feel like a plum pit, appearing and disappearing intermittently.
Take half-green, half-yellow plums, and for each, use one liang of salt (less salt is ineffective). Pickle for one day and night, sun-dry, then pickle again, and dry again, until the saltwater is fully absorbed. For each dose, take three bronze coins, sandwich two salted plums between them, bind with hemp thread, place in a porcelain jar, seal tightly, and bury underground for one hundred days before retrieving. Take one piece, hold in the mouth, and swallow the juice into the throat; it dissipates in a moment. Those stored for one year are best (the older, the better).
Apply a small amount of oil to the hollow at the back of the neck, and scrape with a copper coin (similar to Guasha scraping). Scrape in the direction of flow (never against the grain); the pain will slightly ease, allowing medication to be administered effectively. Mild cases may recover without medication. Alternatively, use powder of raw *Aconitum carmichaelii* Lateral Root (Sheng Fuzi, 生附子) (or *Evodiae Fructus*, Wuyu, 吴茱萸 may also be used), mix with hot vinegar, and apply to the soles of both feet (effective for both excess heat and deficiency heat).
Another prescription: Two bulbs of garlic, trim both ends, and insert into the nostrils (if the left side is affected, insert into the right; if the right, insert into the left). Recovery occurs when blood appears in the mouth.
Throat obstruction, locked jaw, unconsciousness.
*Croton tiglium* Seed (Badou, 巴豆) (crush, wrap in cotton paper, press to extract oil, form into a wick, light it, then blow out), smoke into the nostrils, allowing the vapor to enter the throat to draw out phlegm and blood stasis.
