Previously, Li Meixinzhuan, the Education Commissioner of Pengtian in Luling, [narrated a case].
In Fenyi County, Yinzhou, there was a man who loved drinking since age ten. By age nineteen, he could drink one or two dou during the day without getting drunk. If deprived of alcohol even briefly, he would shout incessantly and refuse all food, becoming increasingly emaciated and near death. His father prayed desperately to the gods. Suddenly, a Daoist priest appeared and instructed the father to bind the patient's hands and feet tightly with a towel to prevent movement, supporting him to stand slightly. Then, the priest took a jar of raw, pungent wine, opened it near the son's mouth. The aroma of the wine rushed into the patient's mouth. The patient desperately wanted to drink, but the priest firmly refused. After a moment, the patient vomited out a lump of substance that fell straight to the bottom of the jar. The priest sealed the jar mouth with paper and heated it over a fierce fire until about half the wine evaporated. Upon opening, the lump resembled a pig liver, weighing about 3 liang, with numerous tiny holes around its circumference like needle eyes, too many to count. It was discarded into the river. Afterwards, his diet returned to normal, and he no longer desired alcohol even in drops.
