Treats post-typhoid fever conditions where the Spleen and Stomach are weak, leading to loss of appetite and inability to digest food even when eaten.
Heqile Pi (Pericarpium Chebulae), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Mai (Triticum aestivum, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Renshen (Panax ginseng) [each 1 liang], Shenqu (Medicated Leaven, stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, bran-fried).
Crush the above herbs into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1 zhong zhan of water and 0.5 ban of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to 6 fen, strain, and take hot at any time.
Treats indigestion of retained food.
Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Fuling (Poria, remove black skin), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [each 1 liang], Hongdou (Vigna angularis), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Renshen (Panax ginseng), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) [each 5 qian].
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with refined honey, and pound for 300-500 strokes. Form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 15 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine; rice gruel is also acceptable.
Treats typhoid fever, regardless of Yin or Yang syndromes. The ingredients used should target the specific meridians affected. If the pathogen is in the exterior stage and has not yet entered the meridians, presenting with fever, aversion to cold, and lower back pain, taking two doses consecutively will induce sweating and cure the condition. If the pathogen has entered the meridians, presenting with chest fullness, shortness of breath, limb discomfort and pain, slight eye pain, deafness, dry mouth and throat, thirst or no thirst, naturally warm hands and feet, or cold extremities, spontaneous diarrhea or constipation, and frequent urination, this formula regulates the Middle Jiao, promotes Qi flow, and expels cold pathogens. If the head and face are affected by cold, with wind damaging the interstices, causing headache, stiff neck, fever worsening aversion to cold, runny clear nose, cough with phlegm, and treating rheumatism where wind and dampness contend, causing joint pain, heavy limbs, aversion to wind, and spontaneous sweating, this formula greatly harmonizes the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), releases the exterior and rescues the interior, moistens and warms the Lung Meridian, balances the Qi of the four seasons, regulates Yin and Yang, and improves appetite. It is suitable for wind-cold or typhoid fever, summerheat or dampness strike, bone-steaming fever with headache, rebellious Qi with chest fullness, vomiting without hunger, dizziness, nausea, failure to resolve after sweating, improper purgation, or ineffective emesis. Its nature is clear but not cooling, warm but not cloying. It is suitable for the elderly, debilitated persons, men, women, pregnant women, and children. Taking two consecutive doses ensures efficacy. Regular use in spring prevents epidemics, in summer prevents summerheat and dampness strikes, in autumn prevents malaria, and in winter prevents cold toxicity. It is truly a divine health-preserving medicine, its effects incalculable.
Shanyinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, remove rhizome), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Renshen (Panax ginseng), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked in rice wash water and stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gaoben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed with ginger), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [each 1 liang].
After Lichun (Start of Spring), do not add or subtract. After Lixia (Start of Summer), add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Chi Fuling (Poria cum Rubro), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [each 0.5 liang] to one batch.
After Liqiu (Start of Autumn), reduce Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) by 1 fen, omit Danggui and Chi Fuling, and only add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, remove rough bark) [each 1 fen], Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, remove joints) [0.5 liang].
After Lidong (Start of Winter), no additions or subtractions. Another version omits Danggui and includes Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, remove rhizome) [0.5 liang].
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, 3 slices of ginger, and 2 jujubes, decoct to 1 zhan, take hot at any time, and take two doses consecutively. To release the exterior, add 3 cun of scallion white and 30 grains of Dan Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum), decoct together, cover with clothing and blankets, and cure upon sweating.
