Take *Dangfan* (Alumen, 胆矾) that resembles glaze, half raw and half calcined, grind it into a fine powder. Add a small amount of *Nifen* (Calomel, 腻粉) and grind them together thoroughly. Use half a qian (approx. 3g) each time, mix the medicine with fresh ginger juice, apply to the axilla by rubbing until a strong sensation of heat and pain is felt, then stop. The alum used should be stone-based without grey impurities, which is superior.
Take one steamed bun, tear it into two halves, sprinkle approximately one qian of fine *Mituoseng* (Litharge, 密陀僧) powder on it, and quickly clamp it between the armpits. Sleep for a short while, discard when cool. If only one axilla is affected, use only half. Ye Yuanfang suffered from this ailment all his life; upon arriving in Shaoxing, he accidentally obtained this prescription. After using it once, the root cause was eliminated.
The aforementioned method: Remove the hair from the axilla first. Grind half a liang (approx. 15-20g) of *Gansui* (Kansui Root, 甘遂) into powder. Slice two pieces of pork meat thinly, sprinkle the Gansui powder onto the meat, and apply to both axillae in the afternoon. Wait until the fifth watch of the next morning (around 3-5 AM), then decoct half a liang of *Gancao* (Licorice Root, 甘草) in water to make one bowl of soup, and drink it. Within a short time, foul-smelling gas will be expelled through defecation.
The aforementioned method: Take one live river snail (*Tianluo*, 田螺), place a small amount of high-quality *Shexiang* (Musk, 麝香) inside the snail, and bury it on open ground exposed to the sky, ensuring it is not struck by rain. Wait for forty-nine days (seven seven periods), then retrieve it. Examine the affected area, wash it clean and dry it thoroughly. Apply ink to the area, then wash again. Observe if there are black spots; these are the orifices of the lesion. Drip the juice from the snail onto these spots. It will heal completely after two applications.
The aforementioned method: Use white alum (*Baifan*, 白矾) that has been refined by flying (sublimation/heating), quantity as needed. Before going to sleep, place paper on a table, extend your arm to rest against a wall or pillar, and rub the axilla with the dry medicine until a strong sensation of heat and pain is felt, covering both axillae. First, during midday, wash the upper part of the worn clothes thoroughly with ash lye, and soak them to remove the odor from the sleeves until no scent remains, resembling new clothing before wearing again. If the odor persists after washing, the medicine is wasted. Generally, the medicines are effective; the failure to cure the root cause is often due to the clothes generating odor again. Another prescription uses powdered calcined alum stored in a silk bag, frequently dusted on the axilla; ten applications suffice. Another method involves mixing the powder with saliva for application.
*Baifan* (White Alum, 白矾), *Mituoseng* (Litharge, 密陀僧), *Huandan* (Red Lead, 黄丹) (each 2 fen); *Shexiang* (Musk, 麝香) (1 zhu).
Grind the above ingredients in a mortar until they resemble flying dust. Mix the powder with vinegar in the palm of the hand, apply to the axilla, wait for approximately two shichen (4 hours), then wash with a decoction of *Xiangbaizhi* (Angelica Dahurica, 香白芷). Use once daily.
