Between the sixth and seventh lunar months, dampness prevails. According to the Five Elements theory, "the child can cause the mother to be full," leading to flourishing heat. When dampness and heat combine, they damage the Large Intestine (Metal element), thus requiring cold-natured herbs to rescue the condition.
When Dry Metal (Lung) is affected by damp-heat, the source of Cold Water (Kidney) generation is cut off. If the source is exhausted, Kidney deficiency occurs, leading to severe outbreaks of Wei syndrome (flaccidity syndrome) and Jue syndrome (cold extremities). Symptoms include flaccidity and weakness below the waist, paralysis preventing walking, deformity, and tilting of both feet. This prescription is used to treat such conditions.
