Sudden hemoptysis (coughing up blood) or hematemesis (vomiting blood), within a few days, muscles become emaciated and the appearance is haggard like a ghost, eyes lose luster. It also treats all chronic consumptive diseases (Laoji) in men and women, where the Heart and Lung are affected by pathogenic factors, leading to wheezing and coughing. Therefore, one should first take herbs for the Heart, then herbs for the Lung, and finally herbs for the Kidney, to clear the source and flow of the disease, and restore the True Qi. The First Formula targets the Heart Fire, aiming to remove the fire toxin; the Second Formula targets the Lung, aiming to protect Lung Qi (Metal Qi) and expel pathogens; the Third Formula targets the Kidney, still to clear the disease source and restore True Qi. It is recommended to take the Heart formula once after lunch at noon. In the evening, if the Lung pulse is prominent, take the Lung formula; if the Heart pulse is prominent, take the Heart formula, adjusting the dosage based on the pulse condition and symptoms. Taking the Kidney formula aims to remove the root of the disease and restore True Qi. Later patients who take these medicines, if they indeed have this condition, will likely achieve efficacy.
First Formula:
Treats excessive Heart Fire that scorches the essence of Lung Metal. When the Lung is invaded by Fire pathogen, it causes restlessness due to wheezing and coughing, with reverse flow of Qi and Blood, manifesting upward as hemoptysis or epistaxis (nosebleed). It is suitable to first take the following herbs: Gan Song (Nardostachys Radix), Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, removed seedlings), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, removed heart), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, removed roots), Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, sliced), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus) (all above 1 fen), Tian Ling Gai (Human Cranium, fried with butter), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, fried with butter, each half zhu). Grind the above into powder. Take 2.5 qian per dose, add one盏 (approx. 200ml) of water, boil for two boils, then strain immediately. Mix with dregs or filter out dregs and take as desired. Take after wandering freely for a while after meals, or after lunch at noon. If the large intestine is deficient and loose, pay attention.
Second Formula:
Formula for Regulating Qi, Resolving Phlegm, and Stopping Hemoptysis.
Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 4 zhu), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, removed skirt), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, removed roots, each half zhu), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus, removed heart), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, removed seedlings), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix). Grind the above into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, add one盏 of water and one slice of fresh ginger, boil together for one or two boils, strain immediately, and take the liquid warm.
Third Formula:
Clear the disease source to restore True Qi. It is suitable to take "Gu Yuan Dan" (Solidify Origin Pill) to resolve Kidney pathogens and restore True Qi. If there is constipation with heat, first take the aforementioned formulas to harmonize the Zang-Fu organs. Only when the Zang-Fu are harmonized should this medicine be taken.
Bi Xie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Ba Ji Tian (Morindae Officinalis Radix, removed heart), Fu Ling (Poria), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Tian Ling Gai (Human Cranium, fried with butter), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, fried with vinegar). Grind the above into very fine powder. Mix with cooked flour and the herb powder, add drops of water to make pills, size similar to Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills per dose. On an empty stomach, decoct Fu Ling (Poria) soup, add a little salt, and take with the pills.
