Treats abdominal pain before and after childbirth, body heat, headache, and immediately after delivery before consuming other substances, first take this medicine to expel retained blood (retained blood), generate new blood, and eliminate various diseases.
Chuanxiong Rhizome (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (two taels) Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) (three taels)
Grind the above into a fine powder. For each dose, take two qian, with one cup of water and one part of wine, decoct together until seven parts remain, and take warm. Another method: grind into a coarse powder, take four qian per dose, with seven parts water and three parts wine, decoct together until seven parts remain, and take hot. Before childbirth, prepare this medicine in advance; decoct two doses, and administer quickly after delivery. Within three days, take twice daily; after three days, take once daily. Another formula is named Xiongui Tang (Cnidium and Angelica Decoction), using only these two ingredients in equal proportions, chopped, and decocted in water. It specifically treats blood loss, blood loss from fetal injury, postpartum blood loss, metrorrhagia bleeding, bleeding from traumatic wounds, persistent bleeding after tooth extraction, and all conditions involving excessive blood loss causing mental restlessness, dizziness, fainting with loss of consciousness, heavy head, dim vision, and feeling as if falling when lifting the head; it can treat all these. If dizziness occurs postpartum, it is advisable to add Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 白芍). Another name is Guixiang San (Cinnamon and Costus Powder), treating unbearable postpartum abdominal pain; add Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心) in equal proportion, decoct with wine and童子小便 (urine of an uncircumcised boy), and take for immediate effect. Another name is Danggui Tang (Angelica Decoction), treating dead fetus during pregnancy or restless fetus that is not yet dead. Each dose is decocted with wine and water. Take several doses continuously. If the fetus is already dead, it will be expelled upon taking; if alive, the fetus will be stabilized. This prescription has been effective repeatedly without fail. Another name is Hupo San (Amber Powder), taken near term to shorten labor and facilitate delivery, and also treats various postpartum diseases. Another name is Yangrou Tang (Mutton Decoction), treating deficiency, emaciation, weakness, abdominal pain, alternating chills and fever, shortness of breath with inability to support oneself, dizziness, spontaneous sweating, abdominal tension and pain. Each dose uses one tael of lean mutton, ten slices of fresh ginger, and two cups of water, decocted until six parts remain, and taken warm. Another name is Junchen San (Ruler-Minister Powder), treating heart and abdominal pain in married women and unmarried girls, and irregular menstruation; decoct in water and take. For pregnant women with unstable fetal qi or various postpartum diseases, add wine and decoct. Another name is Xiongdang San (Chuanxiong and Angelica Powder), treating women with qi and blood rushing upward causing panting and lower limb swelling. Grind the two ingredients equally into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with mugwort water on an empty stomach. It also treats postpartum bodily damage, blood rushing to the heart, and abdominal distension with qi stagnation, with miraculous efficacy. For difficult labor, transverse presentation, or dead fetus in the uterus, first stir-fry one large he of black soybeans until cooked. Add one cup of water and one cup of urine of an uncircumcised boy, along with four qian of the powder. Decoct together until one cup remains. Divide into two doses. If ineffective, prepare again. For postpartum retained blood entering the heart causing coma and oppression, rapid breathing, and abdominal pain, use the previous method with black soybeans plus half a he of fresh ginger juice, decoct and take. To treat intestinal abscess (zangdu, 脏毒), take one and a half qian per dose, add half a qian of stir-fried Sophora flower powder, one cup of water, decoct until six parts remain, and take at any time. Blood clots will be discharged within three days, and the condition will heal. For postpartum headache, add Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie, 荆芥) and decoct; it is also suitable for hematemesis. For dystocia, mix Cinnabar Stigma (Bai Cao Shuang, 百草霜) and Bupleuri Radix (Xiang Baizhi, 香白芷) in equal proportions into a powder, named Wu Jin San (Black Gold Powder). Take two qian per dose, soaked in boiling water with one he of urine of an uncircumcised boy and good vinegar, and take. Usually effective after one dose; severe cases may require a second dose, by which time delivery has occurred. One method uses Wu Ji San (Five Accumulations Powder) decocted with vinegar, which can also induce labor. For metrorrhagia and metrorrhaxis, excessive blood loss that persists for a long time, treat with Xiongui Tang. If bleeding does not stop, stir-fry Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu, 香附子) until skin and hairs are removed, grind into a fine powder. For every one tael, add one qian of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), and take mixed with clear rice drink, named Shun Yuan Tang (Smooth Origin Decoction). For those with leukorrhea, add five taels of Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 白芍) to Shun Yuan Tang. Some say Cyperi Rhizoma consumes qi, but this is incorrect. Scholar Xu stated it nourishes blood and qi, calling it a fairy medicine for women, suitable even for weak individuals. It also treats hematemesis, epistaxis, and bleeding from bowels/bladder in both men and women, as well as blood loss from various syndromes. Use this medicine mixed with rice drink to make pills, adding Cinnabar Stigma powder. Take over one hundred pills per dose, or use other ash-forming medicines; all can be effective. Do not hastily use drying and astringent agents to stop bleeding, as this will inevitably cause obstruction and corruption, leading to other syndromes. Generally, blood fails to circulate due to the influence of qi. When qi is balanced, blood follows its normal path, and there will be no risk of reckless bleeding. Cyperi Rhizoma excels at guiding qi; use it without doubt.
