This formula treats all cases of deficiency-cold in the Heart, Lungs, Spleen, and Stomach; it is said to be effective for myriad diseases. Sheng Jiwen transmitted this formula from He Fanghui, stating: "Previously, while in Heshuo, I suffered from spleen-stomach diarrhea with pus and blood, accompanied by vomiting and cholera-like symptoms, severe cramping pain in the heart and abdomen, frequent cold sweats, and cold extremities (Jue Ni) that were unbearable. After taking a decoction of this medicine, and upon taking a second dose, the symptoms subsided."
**Second Formula:**
Ingredients include: Huoxiangye (Folium Agastaches Rugosae, Patchouli Leaf, 3 liang), Bai Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum, Prepared Ginger, 0.5 liang, processed), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae), Qingpi (Cortex Tangerinae, albedo removed, stir-fried with bran), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, Medicated Leaven, stir-fried), Renshen (Radix Ginseng, radix end removed), Pu (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, Magnolia Bark, processed with ginger juice), and Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, albedo removed).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose.
- For vomiting, dysentery, inability to eat, or vomiting of sour/bitter fluids, epigastric reflux, and nausea: Decoct with 1 zhan of water and half a piece of baked fresh ginger (broken apart) until 70% remains. Add a pinch of salt to the cup and drink hot.
- For watery diarrhea, slippery discharge, intestinal wind, or internal toxins: Mix with warm rice water and a small amount of salt.
- For red and white dysentery: Take with a decoction of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, Licorice Root) and Heidou (Semen Sojae Preparatum, Prepared Soybean).
- For Spleen Yuan affected by deficient pathogens, manifesting as alternating chills and fever, or spleen-stomach deficiency-cold, acid regurgitation, Qi distension, retention of food/alcohol, belching with fullness and indigestion, chest discomfort, dark/dull complexion, dizziness due to Phlegm-Qi, and vertigo/dizziness of head and eyes: Decoct 1 zhan of water with 3 slices of ginger and one jujube (broken apart) until 70% remains. Add a small amount of salt. Chew the ginger and jujube, then drink the soup hot.
- For Stomach Qi belching: Take half a teacup of natural juice of fresh ginger, mix with salt, and drink hot.
- For complete loss of appetite, or eating little with weak Qi and chest fullness: Chew a small piece of baked ginger first, mix with salt, and eat hot.
- Alcohol intoxication can also be treated similarly.
For all conditions where Qi stagnation in the diaphragm transforms into various diseases, take as described above, at any time. Using boiling water to infuse salt, ginger, and Zisu (Folium Perillae) is particularly effective. It greatly promotes digestion, regulates Qi, benefits the diaphragm, and opens the stomach; its efficacy cannot be fully detailed.
