Formula for Resolving Gouwen Poison: To treat poisoning from Gynura segetum (Gouwen), causing extreme distress, cyanotic complexion, trismus (lockjaw), cold extremities, and body numbness. The *Zhouhou Fang* states that Gouwen resembles Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu) or mustard greens, but grows without other grasses nearby. Its stems have hairs, and accidental ingestion is fatal.
The above formula uses 8 liang of Shepherd's Purse (Shepherdia/Shepherd's purse herb - note: text says 荠, likely Shepherds Purse), chopped, boiled in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. If the patient feels cold, take 5 he at a time, twice during the day and three times at night; a concentrated decoction is preferable. Another method involves drinking Cinnamomi Ramulus juice (Cinnamon twig juice). Another method suggests drinking Allii Fistulosi juice (Scallion juice).
The above formula uses Fermented Soybean (Douchi) decocted strongly into a thick soup for drinking. It also treats restlessness and oppression in the chest caused by overdosing on medicine.
Symptoms include dry mouth, red cheeks, heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), persistent diarrhea, and ineffectiveness of medication.
The above formula uses fresh juice extracted from Musa basjoo root and leaves (Banana root/leaf), taken orally; diarrhea stops and the patient stabilizes.
The above formula uses dried pods of Nelumbinis Semen (Lotus seed pod) with pedicels, dried in shade, chopped, and decocted in 2-3 bowls of water for administration. If unavailable, use the center stalk of Nelumbinis Nelumbo (Lotus leaf) or decoct Nelumbinis Rhizomatis nodosum (Lotus root node) in one bowl of water, administered warm or cold; the poison dissipates.
Symptoms include maniacal irritability, twisting pain in the heart and abdomen, dizziness with urge to vomit but inability to do so, cyanotic-black complexion, cold extremities, and imminent death if not rescued immediately.
The above formula uses half a sheng of Vigna radiata (Mung bean), pounded and strained, mixed with well water, and taken orally. Alternatively, use 2 qian of true Indigofera tinctoria flower powder (Indigo naturalis/Dianhua), divided into two doses, mixed strongly with well water and taken orally. Another method for treating coma with warmth in the heart area uses new well water to mix lead white powder (Cerussa/Shuifen) for administration, yielding miraculous results.

The above formula uses Dolichos lablab seeds (White hyacinth bean), sun-dried raw, ground into fine powder, taken with 2-3 qian mixed in new well water; the patient recovers. Note: The physician Gao Zhao's son was unruly; after being whipped by his father, he ingested arsenic trioxide (Pishuang) to harm himself, resulting in severe diarrhea and abdominal agony. I instructed him to take the white hyacinth bean powder mixed with water, given as desired; within a few bowls, he stabilized.
