To treat Taenia saginata (pork tapeworm) and various other parasitic worms.
Formula 1:
Calcii Carbonis Cinis (Tin Ash, ground into fine powder, 1 liang) Arecae Semen (Chicken-heart Betel Nut) Cyathulae Radix (Guanzhong) (each 0.5 liang) Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang) (2.5 qian) Calomelas (Qingfen) Minium (Huangdan) (each 2 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use wine and vinegar to boil wheat paste as a binder to form pills the size of lychees. Take one pill per dose. Soak the pill in rice wash water until soft. Eat a meal first at noon. When hunger and fullness are balanced in the evening (around dusk), eat a slice of dried meat to lure the parasites. After a short while, chew the pill and swallow it with warm wine. By early morning, the worms will be expelled. Subsequently, eat Chinese chives. This formula also treats Taenia saginata.
Formula 2:
Cibotii Rhizoma (Gouji) Cyathulae Radix (Guanzhong) Xanthii Fructus (Bai Wuyi) Punicis Granati Cortex (Suan Shiliugen) (chopped, each 1 liang).
Chop the above ingredients finely. Take 0.5 liang per dose. Boil in one large cup of jiangshui (fermented rice water) until reduced to 0.5 cup. Strain the dregs. Take warm at the beginning of the fourth watch (early morning, approx. 3-5 AM). Do not eat supper on the evening before.
Formula 3:
Torreya Seed (Feizi) Arecae Semen (Binglang) Xanthii Fructus (Wuyi) (equal parts).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine. Eat roasted beef jerky before taking the medicine.
Treats Taenia saginata, regardless of duration, with miraculous efficacy.
Aucklandiae Radix (Nan Muxiang) Arecae Semen (Binglang) (equal parts).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with thick rice drink. At dawn, on an empty stomach, chew thoroughly cooked grilled pork or similar meat, swallow only the juice, spit out the residue, then take the medicine. The worms will be expelled between Chen and Si hours (7-11 AM), and the disease will be permanently eradicated. This formula is so simple yet effective quickly. It has been verified repeatedly.
Usage of the above: Take 49 seeds of Torreya grandis (Feizi), peel them. In the first half of the lunar month, take 7 seeds every morning on an empty stomach. Finish within seven days; the worms will dissolve into water, ensuring permanent cure. Another method states: eat 7 fresh nuts, completing the course in seven days, and the worms will turn into water. Another method involves burning 100 seeds and swallowing them; finishing all is best, but eating 50 is also acceptable. After one night, the worms digest and pass naturally. Another variation also treats Sanshi worms (three corpse worms).
Usage of the above: Stir-fry lead black until it turns to ash. Take 4 qian per dose. First, eat a small amount of pork jerky. After one shichen (two hours), mix the ash with half a cup of strong sugar water and take it at the fifth watch (approx. 3-5 AM). All worms will be expelled. Consume white porridge for one day to recuperate, which is beneficial. During the Xuanhe era, I often felt gastric discomfort, suspecting it was due to drinking or parasitic infestation. Following the instructions of this good prescription, I expelled two worms the next day. One was 2 chi 5 cun long, with a flat wide head and sharp tail, segmented every cun, with patterns like brocade. The other was entirely broken into segments. The *Qianjin Fang* states that labor generates heat, and heat generates worms. The heart worm is called Ascaris (Hui); the spleen worm is Taenia saginata (Cunbai); the kidney worm resembles cut silk threads; the liver worm resembles rotten apricots; the lung worm resembles silkworms. These five worms can all cause death. Among them, the lung worm is the most urgent. It resides within the lung lobes, eroding the lung system, thus forming consumptive disease (Zhai Ji), characterized by hemoptysis and hoarseness. Medicines cannot easily reach it, making treatment difficult. Some say that the *Daozang* records that various worms move head-downwards, except from the 1st to the 5th day of the lunar month when they move head-upwards. Therefore, those prescribing medicine often choose days prior to this period, presumably referring to this principle.
