Take cotton seeds and Sophora japonica Flower Buds (Huaimi, 槐花米), stir-fry each until charred black, mix in equal proportions, then make pills using Mume Fructus decoction (Wumei Shui, 乌梅水) and aged rice wine. Take orally daily with Mume Fructus decoction; stop after taking three qian per dose.
Another prescription:
Take four liang of Wood Ear Mushroom (Mu'er, 木耳), wash it thoroughly, and boil it until soft inside a pig large intestine. Eat this as a side dish with rice; the illness will be cured upon finishing the meal.
Decoct the bamboo leaves (Ruoye, 箬叶) found inside the basket of Songluo Tea (Songluo Cha, 松萝茶) to make one large bowl of decoction. Drink it, and bowel movement will become unobstructed.
Take thirty chicken eggs and four liang of Tribulus Terrestris Fruit (Ciji, 蒺藜). Wash them clean, stir-fry slightly, remove the spines, and boil in a clay pot with clear water for a full day and night. If the water dries up, add more water and continue boiling. Every winter morning at dawn, take three or four eggs, or two or three eggs, together with the Tribulus Terrestris decoction. Long-term continuous consumption prevents visual blurriness. Elderly people can read small print like fly heads without needing glasses.
I do not understand medicine but enjoy copying medical texts. I once collected simple and effective ancient prescriptions, organizing them into volumes for internal and external medicine, intending to have them printed. My younger brother said, "Using fixed prescriptions to administer medicine is like gluing the bridges on a pipa before playing it. People differ in strength, weakness, deficiency, and excess; without pulse diagnosis, there is no way to differentiate syndromes. Although ancient prescriptions are refined, if used improperly, they may harm people." Thus, I did not proceed. One day at the Yihe Ferry, I saw a woman with her eyeballs protruding outward and felt great pity. When I asked doctors, all were at a loss. Later, while consulting *Compendium of Materia Medica* (Bencao Gangmu, 本草纲目), I found that Xia Ziyi's *Prescriptions for Strange Diseases* (Qiji Fang, 奇疾方) recorded this condition, but that woman had long since died. Sighing with emotion, I thought, if only this prescription had been obtained earlier and given to that woman, who knows she could not have survived? Therefore, I collected and recorded strange diseases and symptoms, whether seen in books or heard from guests' conversations, and listed them all. Most were derived from Materia Medica texts. Since these are not obscure books, but various prescriptions are scattered under each herb entry, making them voluminous and hard to search, I extracted them for easier reference. There are also cases of strange diseases where doctors are helpless; rather than sitting and waiting for death, it is better to try these prescriptions. This is my original intention in compiling this text. Learned physicians in the world should naturally rely on pulse diagnosis and syndrome differentiation for definitive conclusions.
