[Song] Improper nursing during pregnancy leads to fetal Qi rebelling upward and pressing against the heart and lungs; if accompanied by shortness of breath, it is critical. Dang Gui Tang (Angelica Decoction) with scallion white, E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), and Gan Cao (Licorice), combined with Da Fu Pi (Areca Peel) and Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit), yields miraculous effects.
[Discussion] If nursing is appropriate, Qi and Blood are harmonious, the fetus resides in its proper place, and delivery proceeds smoothly. Otherwise, fetal Qi rebels upward, pressing against the heart and lungs, causing Qi stagnation and inability to circulate, leading to death from chest oppression, restlessness, and panting. Xue Lizhai stated: For rebellious Qi causing fetal upward pressure, use Zi Su Yin (Perilla Decoction). If accompanied by poor appetite, combine with Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction). For internal heat due to Liver Fire, use Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). For Stomach Fire, add Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit) and Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) to Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction). For Spleen Depression, use Jia Wei Gui Pi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction).
[Formula]
Dang Gui Tang (Angelica Decoction)
Ingredients: Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Lian Xu Cong Bai (Scallion White with roots).
Usage: Decoct in water and take orally. Alternatively, decoct twenty-one stalks of Scallion White alone in water. If the fetus is alive, it will be stabilized; if dead, it will be expelled.
[Song] Deficiency of both Qi and Blood leads to poor fetal growth. Huang Qi (Astragalus Root), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) are used together. Frequently drinking broth boiled from Carp (Cyprinus carpio) will eventually result in a plump and healthy fetus.
[Discussion] The Sheng Ji Zong Lu states: Improper regulation leads to reduced food intake and deficiency of Qi and Blood, which fail to circulate Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) to transform fine essences and nourish the Chong and Ren vessels. Thus, the fetus becomes weak internally, lacking sufficient fetal Qi. If the Spleen and Stomach are harmonious and capable of digestion, transforming food and fluids into Qi and Blood, why worry about the lack of fetal growth?
[Formula]

Bai Zhu Wan (Atractylodes Pill)
Ingredients: Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Mu Li (Concha Ostreae), Chuan Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium).
Usage: Make honey pills, take thirty pills each time.
Ji Yan Fang (Verified Formula)
Take a carp about one chi long, cook it as food, and drink the broth; the fetus will naturally grow.
(Attachment: Method for Abnormal Lactation)
[Song] During pregnancy, sounds like bell ringing may be heard inside the abdomen, or even the sound of an infant crying. Although Tu Chu Qiong (Soil from Mouse Hole) containing Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) is the primary treatment, one must know that this often indicates the child will not survive after birth.
[Discussion] For bell-like sounds in the abdomen during pregnancy, powder the soil from a mouse hole, mix with a small amount of She Xiang (Moschus), and take two qian mixed with wine; it cures immediately. Alternatively, decoct Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) strongly and let the mother sip it frequently. The Chan Bao states: The reason for the fetus crying in the abdomen is that a nodule on the umbilical cord was held in the mouth. Due to climbing high and raising arms during pregnancy, the nodule slipped out of the mouth, causing the sound. Instruct the pregnant woman to bend her waist and act as if picking up something from the ground; once the nodule re-enters the mouth, the crying stops. It also states that the treatment can use the aforementioned two formulas. Xue Lizhai said: Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) is cold in nature, and She Xiang (Moschus) opens orifices; they should be used with discretion.
A woman at eight months of pregnancy raised her arm to hang a window, causing the fetus to cry in the abdomen. No one could treat it until an old midwife taught her to scatter one sheng of soybeans on the ground and have the pregnant woman pick them up. The crying stopped before she had picked up half.
If milk suddenly drips from both breasts without cause during pregnancy, it is called "Ru Qi" (Lactation Before Delivery). Those with this symptom often do not deliver viable children.
