When male and female engage in intercourse, their essence and spirit combine, giving rise to all things. Although the fetus is conceived from essence and blood, it actually relies on the condensation of the primordial Qi of the congenital constitution, as described by the phrase "the exquisite combination of the two fives (Yin and Yang) condenses." If essence condenses with blood, essence prevails, resulting in a male. If blood gathers around essence, blood prevails, resulting in a female. Twins or multiple births occur due to the divergence and scattering of essence and qi accompanied by blood coagulation, not through a single pathway. Men who cannot become fathers suffer from a deficiency of Yang Qi. Women who cannot become mothers suffer from obstruction of Yin Qi. Therefore, the method for promoting conception involves men focusing on tonifying the Kidney and filling essence, while women prioritize nourishing blood and regulating menstruation. When essence and blood are sufficient and the menstrual cycle is regular without deviation, men will invariably become fathers, and women will invariably become mothers.
Diseases of the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) can cause infertility in women. A weak and choppy pulse at the Shaoyin position indicates no offspring in young women, and sterility in middle-aged women. In obese women, a fine pulse with cold-fluid retention leads to reduced fertility. In thin women, a choppy pulse indicates insufficient residual blood in the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), preventing conception.
Men should value the preservation of essence, while women should focus on regulating blood. Abdominal pain before menstruation requires regulating Qi along with invigorating blood; abdominal pain after menstruation benefits from nourishing blood or supplementing Qi. For Yin deficiency, nourish Yin and strengthen Water to regulate Yuan Qi. For Yang deficiency, tonify the Kidney and support Yang to generate essence and blood.
The primary treatment uses Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Amomum fruit (Sharen), Cyperus rhizome (Xiangfu), Eucommia bark (Duzhong), and Dipsacus root (Xuduan). Add Peach kernel (Taoren) and Safflower (Honghua) for blood stasis; add Donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao) and Yellow Ming Gelatin (Huangming Jiao) for blood deficiency; add Gardenia fruit (Shanzhi) and Moutan bark (Danpi) for blood heat; add Processed Ginger (Paojiang) and Cinnamon twig (Rougui) for cold; add Aucklandia root (Muxiang) and Cyperus rhizome (Xiangfu) for Qi stagnation; add Ginseng (Renshen) and Astragalus root (Huangqi) for Qi deficiency. For deficiency-cold, use Kochia herb (Qinjiao) and Cassia twig (Guizhi); for deficiency-heat, use Xianqi Tang (Premature Period Decoction). Treatment should be adjusted according to the pulse and symptoms to facilitate conception.

Decoct in water and take warm. Adding a small amount of Amomum regulates the Stomach and awakens the Spleen. When the Spleen and Stomach are harmonious, the Blood Chamber is sufficient, and Qi flows without stagnation. How could there be disharmony of Chong and Ren leading to infertility?

If menstruation is delayed with pale color, add Processed Ginger and Cinnamon Twig to warm meridians and blood. If menstruation occurs early with bright red color, add Scutellaria baicalensis root (Huangqin) and Gardenia fruit to clear heat and cool blood. These modifications fit the symptoms precisely.
