Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Ezhu (Rhizoma Curcumae), Yan Hu Suo (Rhizoma Corydalis), Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Zhi Qiao (Fructus Aurantii), Qing Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae) (each 2 qian), Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), San Leng (Rhizoma Sparganii), Xiao Hui Xiang (Fructus Foeniculi), Sha Ren (Fructus Amomi) (each 3 qian), Gan Qi (Resina Dryobalanops), Hong Hua (Flos Carthami) (each 1 qian), Xiang Fu (Rhizoma Cyperi) (5 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (2 qian). Grind all into powder. Take 3 qian daily on an empty stomach with wine.
Chapter 51-52: Irregular menstruation, often dripping continuously, with blood clots or strips, or unstoppable leakage. This is a reversal of Yin and Yang, with reckless movement of Blood and Qi, losing proper regulation; it is most difficult to cure. Only three or five out of one hundred cases are treatable. Urgently take He Jing Tang (Harmonizing Menses Decoction) combined with Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Bu Jing Tang (Tonifying Menses Decoction), or Wu Ji Wan (Black Chicken Pill).
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Shan Yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Fu Shen (Poria Cum Radix Pini), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), Xiang Fu (Rhizoma Cyperi), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (each 1 liang), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) (1.5 liang), Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae), Chao Pu Huang (Pollen Typhae), Chao E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Bai Zhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Xiao Hui Xiang (Fructus Foeniculi) (each 6 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (3 qian). Mix evenly. One decoction uses 1 liang 3 qian. Add 3 slices of fresh ginger, take hot on an empty stomach. If bleeding does not stop after one or two decoctions, reduce the dosage of Xiang Fu, Chen Pi, and Xiao Hui Xiang by half.
The Liver governs Blood, and the Lung governs Qi. Blood is Ying (Nutritive Qi), and Qi is Wei (Defensive Qi). Yin and Yang are paired without discrepancy; these two organs communicate corresponding patterns. Deficient Blood and Excess Qi definitely indicate no pregnancy; Abundant Blood and Rapid Qi indicate pregnancy. A rapid pulse on the left indicates a male fetus; a rapid pulse on the right indicates a female fetus. Smooth and unobstructed flow indicates normal coming and going. If both Guan (Cun) pulses are large and corresponding, it may be twins, distinguishable by gender. A longitudinal pulse pattern on the left generates two sons; a transverse pulse pattern on the right generates two daughters. A reverse pulse on the left generates three sons; a smooth pulse on the right generates three daughters. If the Feng (Wind) section of one Guan pulse corresponds entirely, it indicates one son and one daughter. In some cases, the fetus dies while the mother survives, or the mother dies while the fetus survives. The pulses in the three positions flow smoothly and rapidly, with Slippery and Rapid qualities intermixed without interruption. Excess Yang and Deficient Yin make the pulse clear; reversed Qi fills the chest. A floating and large Tai Yang pulse on the left indicates a male fetus; a deep and fine Tai Yin pulse on the right indicates a female fetus. Keep this distinct feeling in mind for a long time. If the three positions are deep and regular without cessation, and the Chi (Cun) pulse continues, it is a true fetal pulse. Husband overcomes Wife means longitudinal Qi reveals; Wife overcomes Husband means transverse Qi assists; Child overcomes Mother means reverse Qi participates; Mother overcomes Child means smooth Qi protects. When the child's term is full, the fetus gathers. Body heat and chaotic pulse cause no suffering. Sweating, lack of appetite, and vomiting occur; spirit condenses and resides within. Slippery and rapid without dispersing indicates three months of pregnancy; rapid without dispersing harms the mother at five months. Surging, tight, firm, strong, and slippery pulses are each safe; deep, fine, and faint pulses lead to the spring path (death).
(Wu's Commentary: There are also weak pregnant women whose pulses do not manifest before the third month. However, careful examination of the two Chi pulses will reveal a smooth and uninterrupted image. After the fifth month, full and slippery pulses indicate excess, while deep, fine, and faint pulses indicate deficiency. Thus, auspiciousness and misfortune can be predicted before delivery.)
