Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Su Ye (Perillae Folium) (each 2 qian), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus, 4 qian), Yimu Cao (Leonuri Herba), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Hua Shi (Talcum), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (each 3 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 fen), divided into doses.
Fetal morphology in the eighth month: Hair is fully grown. This is because the fetus begins to grow hair only at this month.
Fetal symptoms in the eighth month: The fetus's hair grows long, causing the mother to feel irritable, chest tightness, and restlessness. She often desires food but loses her sense of taste, experiences weakness in the four limbs, and suffers from spleen and stomach deficiency and disharmony. Internal heat and warm pathogens attack each other, causing internal organs to be unstable, potentially transforming into dysentery or damaging fetal qi. It is suitable to take Heqi Pingwei San (Harmonizing Qi and Stomach Powder) to calm the fetus and regulate qi.
Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhu Ling (Polyporus), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (each 2 qian), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 0.4 qian), Dou Kou (Cardamomi Fructus Rotundus, 1 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 3 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), divided into three doses. Take warm on an empty stomach.
(Wu's commentary: It is advisable to remove Sheng Ma and Chai Hu from this formula for a milder and safer effect.)
Fetal morphology in the ninth month: The seven emotions open through the sensory orifices; the eyes have light, the nose perceives odors, the ears hear sounds, and the mouth tastes flavors. All sensory channels are complete, allowing for flexible turning and large movements left and right. Both the fetus and the mother perceive this as a state of worry and depression.
Fetal symptoms in the ninth month: When the fetus reaches the ninth month, resembling imminent birth, sudden abdominal pain occurs, followed by the leakage of amniotic fluid (shower water), yet the infant does not descend. This is due to consuming toxic heat substances before pregnancy, which damaged the fetal qi and caused malposition, thus preventing descent. One must quickly take Baosheng Rusheng San (Preserve Life Like Sage Powder).
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) (2 qian), Yimu Cao (Leonuri Herba) (2 liang), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus) (1 liang), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (4 qian, can be increased for weak constitutions), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Yi Zhi Ren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) (shelled, each 2 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (4 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), Su Ye (Perillae Folium) (5 qian), divided into two doses. After decoction and ingestion, if the fetus has not descended, use one live carp plus one spoonful of vinegar, decocted together with the above herbs; additionally, take one pill of Wuyao Wan (Black Pepper Pill). There will be no failure to descend. (The composition of Wu Jin Wan is listed below.)
Fetal morphology in the tenth month: Gestation is complete. One must wait until the gaps in the mother's limbs and the pubic symphysis are fully opened before delivery is permitted. After birth, do not let the naked infant touch the ground directly, fearing exposure to "thief wind" (drafts/cold winds). Someone should catch and wrap the baby. The postpartum mother must be carefully cared for, ensuring safety for both mother and child.
Fetal symptoms in the tenth month: Upon completion of the tenth month, difficult labor such as breech presentation may occur. This is due to excessive indulgence causing internal injury, tidal fever, consumption of toxic heat substances during pregnancy leading to blood stasis conflict, or injury from emotional anger. In this hurried situation, if caution is not exercised and midwives forcibly extract the fetus, it will inevitably result in death by trauma. The fetus in the womb cannot be treated once dead. Therefore, excellent formulas are prepared to prevent this and relieve emergencies. Taking Huoming Wuyou San (Life-Saving Worry-Free Powder) for one to two doses, combined with two pills of Wu Jin Wan (Gold Pill), can save the situation.
