Answer: When Yang exerts and Yin transforms, a fetus is formed. If the blood and Qi are harmonious, the fetal Qi will be established. If the blood and Qi are deficient and damaged, and the Zi Zang (uterus) is invaded by wind-cold pathogens, causing a deficiency in Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi), it will fail to nourish the fetus, leading to frequent miscarriages. For instance, during the third month of pregnancy, the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin nourishes the fetus. If one fails to take proper care and damages this meridian, a miscarriage may occur. Even if pregnancy is conceived again, if the same precautions are violated at the corresponding time, another miscarriage will happen. Additionally, falls, frights, hematemesis (vomiting blood), or hematochezia/melena can all damage the fetus. Frequent lower back pain during pregnancy predisposes one to miscarriage, as the waist is the mansion of the Kidney, and women rely on Kidney Qi to anchor the fetus.
Di Yu San (Groundsel Powder): Treats pregnancy with damaged and unstable placenta, accompanied by continuous bleeding.
Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix, 3 qian), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 3 fen), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae, 3 qian), Xiong Qiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 3 qian), Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, 0.5 liang), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, 3 qian), Pu Huang (Typhae Pollen, 0.5 liang), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 1 liang), Huang Niu Gu Sai (Ossis Bovinis Maxillaris Carbonized, 1 liang), Wu Gu (Ossis Galli Nigri Carbonized, 2 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 0.5 liang).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with congee water, at any time.
Juan Bai Wan (Selaginella Pill): Treats frequent miscarriages during pregnancy, caused by deficiency and damage of blood and Qi, invasion of wind-cold into the Zi Zang (uterus), resulting in an unstable fetus and frequent injuries.
Juan Bai (Selaginellae Herba), Zhong Ru Fen (Gypsum Fibrosum Pulveratum), Lu Jiao Jiao (Colla Cornus Cervi, crushed and stir-fried until yellow and dry), Zi Shi Ying (Hematitum, calcined, ground fine, and washed with water), Yang Qi Shi (Actinolite, calcined and ground fine), Sang Piao Xiao (Ovi Mantisidis, stir-fried), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Yu Yu Liang (Haematitum, calcined and quenched in vinegar seven times, 1 liang each), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Xiong Qiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, sliced and stir-fried), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Sang Ji Sheng (Taxilli Herba), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 3 fen each), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder, mix with refined honey, and form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 50 pills each time, swallowed with warm wine on an empty stomach.
Yan's Second Question: What causes fetal movement and abdominal pain? Answer: The reason for fetal movement and abdominal pain generally lies in improper diet (too hot or cold), consumption of wind-inducing or toxic foods, or sexual intercourse which shakes the bones and joints, injuring the fetal sac. Symptoms often include vomiting and uneven Qi flow. Overconsumption of hot medicines can also cause conflict between blood and Qi. In such cases, emergency administration of Qi-regulating herbs is needed to calm the fetus; otherwise, it may develop into Lou Tai (threatened abortion/bleeding), which becomes difficult to treat.
Ru Sheng Tang (Like-Sage Decoction).
Li Yu Pi (Pelamis Skin), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix, soaked in wine), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle, equal parts).
