Zi Wan (Radix Asteris), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, processed with蛤粉 [Dongqing Powder] and taken as powder), Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus, heart removed), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Su Zi (Perillae Fructus) (each 8 fen), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) (5 fen), Kuan Dong Hua (Farflos Farfugonis), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, honey-fried), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium) (each 1 qian), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen, skin and tip removed) (1.2 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take before going to bed. (Another prescription does not include Chen Pi.)
This condition arises from excessive consumption of cold/raw foods and fruits during menstruation and the postpartum period; blood stagnates due to contact with water/dampness. In the initial one or two months, it presents with alternating chills and fever, five-palm heat, which is easy to treat. First use Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Decoction) to resolve chills and fever, then use Zi Jin Wan (Purple Gold Pill) to gradually restore spleen qi (appetite/digestion). Once spleen earth qi prevails, menstrual blood will flow naturally. If left untreated for years, it may transform into bone-steaming consumptive disease, occurring at Zi (11 PM-1 AM) and Wu (11 AM-1 PM) hours, with emaciation, exposed bones, and intractable diarrhea, which is fatal.
If the patient follows the previous treatment, should the condition become more acute, opium (3 li) mixed with Gan Cao Tang (Licorice Decoction) may be used, proving effective repeatedly.
When menstruation stops halfway with residual blood remaining, abdominal pain occurs, transforming into tidal fever or no fever. Hong Hua Dang Gui San (Safflower and Angelica Decoction) should be used to break up residual blood stasis, thereby stopping the pain.
Hong Hua (Carthami Flos, stir-fried), Chuan Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Su Mu (Lignum Sappan) (each 1 qian), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (5 fen), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium) (6 fen), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma), E Zhu (Curcumae Rhizoma), Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flos) (dosages incomplete, take as directed).
Menstruation lasting ten days or half a month indicates reckless bleeding. One must examine whether the woman has excessively consumed pungent/hot substances like Sichuan pepper and ginger. This is a heat syndrome, easy to treat, using Jin Mao Gou Ji San (Golden-haired Dog Spine Powder)...
([Wu's Note] There are also cases caused by deficiency and blood stasis leading to continuous dripping, not solely attributable to heat syndromes. Treatment must be based on pulse and symptom differentiation.)
Jin Mao Gou Ji (Cibotii Rhizoma), Chuan Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chuan Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each 1 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 8 fen), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (dosage incomplete).
This is a severe deficiency syndrome; cool/cold medicines are contraindicated. Yi Fu Jia Wei Si Wu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction) should be taken to warm the meridians and harmonize the blood. Menstruation will cease when blood volume recovers the following month.
Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chuan Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma) (each 1 qian), Wu Yao (Linderae Radix) (1 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xiao Hui (Foeniculi Fructus) (each 8 fen), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (2 qian), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (2 slices).
