It is discussed: What is the cause of mutism after childbirth? The answer is: The human heart has seven apertures and three hairs. After childbirth, due to physical weakness, stagnant and foul blood often accumulates, blocking the orifices of the Heart, causing the spirit and consciousness to become unclear; furthermore, the Qi of the Heart connects to the tongue. If the Qi of the Heart is blocked, the tongue also becomes stiff, thus leading to mutism. In such cases, one should only take Qizhen San (Seven Treasures Powder).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 1 liang); Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chen Sha (Cinnabar) (separately ground, each 0.5 liang).
The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Each dose is 1 qian. Take with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction), at any time.
Hu Shi Gufeng San (Dr. Hu's Lone Phoenix Powder) treats postpartum mutism with closed eyes.
Bai Fan (Alumen) (ground finely).
For the above ingredient, each dose is 1 qian. Take with boiled water.
It is discussed: What is the cause of suddenly seeing spirits and ghosts after childbirth? The answer is: The Heart governs the blood vessels of the body. Due to the injury and depletion of blood vessels during childbirth, when the Qi of the Heart is deficient, stagnant and foul blood accumulates and disturbs the Heart from above. The Heart cannot tolerate this disturbance, resulting in inner restlessness, inability to lie down or sit up peacefully, sudden visions of spirits and ghosts, and disordered speech. Physicians who do not recognize this condition may call it Wind Pathogen. If treated as such, it will certainly not heal. One should only take Tiaojing San (Regulate Menses Powder), adding Long Nao (Borneol) to each dose by the amount of a pinch. Peace is achieved once sleep is attained.
Moyao (Myrrha), Hupo (Electrum) (both ground finely), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 1 qian); Shexiang (Moschus), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (each 0.5 qian).
The above ingredients are ground into powder. Each dose is 0.5 qian. Take with a small amount of Shengjiang Zhi (Ginger Juice) and warm wine.
This treats maniacal and confused speech after childbirth, which is caused by internal deficiency, where stagnant and foul blood carries pathogenic factors to attack the Heart.
Baiziren (Biota Seed), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) (heart removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Hupo (Electrum) (separately ground), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (stir-fried), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (baked), Gancao (Licorice Root) (equal parts).
The above ingredients are ground into a coarse powder. First, slice one white sheep heart. Using 1.5 large bowls of water, boil until reduced to nine-tenths. Remove the sheep heart, add five qian of the herbal powder, and decoct until reduced to six-tenths. Strain and take at any time.
This treats postpartum blood-pathogen affecting the mind, causing mental confusion, inappropriate speech, and restless sleep.
Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) (1 liang, skin removed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Longchi (Draconis Os) (ground), Hupo (Electrum) (ground), Chi Shaoyao (Red Paeonia Root), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) (each 3 fen), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (1.5 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) (0.5 liang).
The above ingredients are ground into powder. Each dose is 3 qian. Use one bowl of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths. Take warm, straining the dregs, at any time.
