Treats lower back pain in men and women. (From the prescription of Commander Chen)
*Honghu Suo* (Corydalis Rhizome), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (Equal parts. Another version excludes *Danggui* and includes *Duzhong*).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with warm wine and take two qian. For severe cases, no more than a few doses are needed. (Teng Ke from Tanzhou said: This prescription was obtained from an old physician in Qimen, Shézhou. It is truly miraculous, hence its name.)
Lower back pain is generally caused by weakness of Kidney Qi, lying on cold and damp ground, or exposure to wind pathogens. If not treated promptly, the pathogenic factors tend to flow into the waist and knees, leading to hemiplegia (partial paralysis), cold bi-syndrome (numbness and pain due to cold), flaccidity with heavy pain; or stiffness and spasm of the lower back, heaviness and numbness of the feet. It should be taken immediately.
*Duhuo* (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) (3 liang), *Sangjisheng* (Taxilli Herba), *Xuduan* (Dipsaci Radix), *Duzhong* (Eucommiae Cortex), *Beixixin* (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), *Chuanniuxi* (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), *Qinjiao* (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), *Fuling* (Poria), *Baishaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus), *Chuanxiong* (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix), *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), *Shudihuang* (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (2 liang each).
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one sheng of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach. For qi deficiency with diarrhea, remove *Dihuang*. This formula also treats postpartum abdominal pain preventing movement, as well as spasmodic pain and numbness/weakness of the waist and legs preventing flexion and extension. This medicine is most effective in dispelling wind and resolving blood stasis. *Zhou Hou Fang* includes one *Fuzi* but lacks *Sangjisheng*, *Renshen*, *Danggui*, and *Gancao*. In recent times, it has also been used to treat Li-jie Feng (painful deformity of joints) and Hong-kang Jiao (swollen and painful feet with suppuration), with good effect.
The Kidneys govern the waist and legs. In women, the Kidneys are connected to the Bao Luo (uterus and its collaterals). If劳累 (overwork/injury) leads to Kidney Qi weakness, wind-cold pathogens may lodge in the Bao Luo. The struggle between pathogenic factors and healthy Qi causes pain in the waist and legs.
Treats women's lower back and leg pain, dizziness and stuffiness of the head and eyes, poor appetite, and weakness due to blood/qi deficiency and wind.
*Suanzaoren* (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) (stir-fried), *Chuanniuxi* (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 fen each); *Qianghuo* (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), *Chuanxiong* (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus), *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix), *Muxiang* (Aucklandiae Radix), *Haitongpi* (Spatholobi Caulis), *Duzhong* (Eucommiae Cortex), *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (processed), *Bixie* (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), *Xu Duan* (Dipsaci Radix), *Fencao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang each).
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose. Add one and a half sheng of water and three slices of ginger, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take warm.
Treats women's lower back and leg pain, abdominal and hypochondriac tightness/spasm, and inability to support limb joints, caused by wind attacking blood and qi.
*Gusuibu* (Drynariae Rhizoma) (stir-fried), *Bixie* (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), *Chuanniuxi* (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), *Taoren* (Persicae Semen), *Haitongpi* (Spatholobi Caulis), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus), *Binglang* (Arecae Semen) (1 liang each); *Chishaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), *Chuanxiong* (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (3 fen each); *Zhike* (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (0.5 liang).
Pulverize into coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one large sheng of water, three slices of ginger, and one jujube, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take hot before meals.
