Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix (Danshen, 丹参) (3 liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (devoid of joints), Artemisiae Argyi Folium (Aiye, 艾叶), Asini Corii Colla (Ejiao, 阿胶) (roasted, each 2 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (1 liang, roasted), Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, 大枣) (12 pieces, split open), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (6 liang).
The above nine ingredients are cut. Using three sheng of wine and one dou of water, the herbs are boiled until the liquid is reduced by half. The dregs are removed. The Ejiao is added, and it is decocted to obtain three sheng of liquid. It is divided into three warm doses. Seaweed (Haizao, 海藻) and Brassica rapa var. pekinensis (Songcai, 菘菜) are contraindicated.
If there has been a previous miscarriage at two months of pregnancy, one should preemptively take the Huanglian Tang (Coptis Decoction) formula.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) (each 1 liang), Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (5 he), Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) (5 liang), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (3 liang).
The above five ingredients are cut. Using seven sheng of vinegar slurry, it is decocted to obtain three sheng of liquid. It is divided into four doses: taken three times during the day and once at night, with each course lasting ten days. If considerable discomfort is felt, add one sheng of Mume Fructus (Wumei, 乌梅). When adding Wumei, vinegar slurry is not used; plain water is used directly. Pork, cold water, and Elaeagnus Fructus (Wuyi, 芜荑) are contraindicated. In another version, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 0.5 liang is added.
Pregnancy at three months is called "initial fetus" (Shitai, 始胎). At this time, the fetus has not yet formed a fixed shape and transforms upon seeing external objects. To give birth to a boy, handle bows and arrows; to give birth to a girl, play with pearls and gems. To desire a beautiful child, frequently view jade璧 (Bi, 璧); to desire a virtuous child, sit upright in a quiet and pure environment. This is referred to as "external image inducing internal sensation" (Wai Xiang Nei Gan, 外象内感).
Furthermore, at three months of pregnancy, the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin nourishes the fetus, and acupuncture or moxibustion on this meridian should be avoided. The Pericardium Meridian internally connects to the Heart. One should avoid sorrow, excessive thinking, and fright/disturbance.
Furthermore, at three months of pregnancy, the fetus's form is determined. If there is cold, the stool will be green; if there is heat, urination will be difficult, and the urine will be either red or yellow. Sudden fright, grief, anger, or excessive joy may cause falling or prostration, disturbing the meridians, leading to abdominal fullness, severe pain around the navel, lower back pain, and sudden vaginal bleeding. Use the Xiongji Tang (Male Chicken Decoction) formula.
Male chicken (one whole, prepared for consumption), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), Asini Corii Colla (Ejiao, 阿胶) (each 2 liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) (each 1 liang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药) (4 liang), Ophiopogonis Tuber (Maimendong, 麦门冬) (devoid of heart, 5 he), Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, 大枣) (12 pieces, split open), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (1 liang, sliced).
The ingredients are cut. Using one dou and five sheng of water, the chicken is first boiled until the water is reduced by half. Then the herbs are added and decocted until half the original volume remains. Three sheng of clear wine is added, along with Ejiao, and it is further decocted to obtain three sheng of liquid. It is divided into three doses, consumed within one day. After taking the medicine, one should lie warm in bed. Seaweed (Haizao, 海藻), Brassica rapa var. pekinensis (Songcai, 菘菜), vinegar-processed foods, peach, plum, and sparrow meat are contraindicated. In another version, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) are each 2 liang, without Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) or Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
If there has been a previous miscarriage at three months of pregnancy, one should preemptively take the Fushen Tang (Poria Spirit Decoction) formula.
