For women, leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) and strangury (painful urinary difficulty), although varying in severity, are essentially of the same category. Leukorrhea is the milder form, while strangury is the more severe. The root cause generally lies in the insecurity of the Mingmen (Gate of Life). The reasons for this insecurity are sixfold: First, it arises from the agitation of the Heart spirit (Shen). When the Heart spirit agitates, the Mingmen responds, losing its capacity to hold fast; this stems from unfulfilled desires. Second, it results from excessive indulgence in sexual desire. Unrestrained passion without moderation causes the essence pathway to become slippery, and the Mingmen fails to restrain it; this stems from over-fulfillment. Third, it is caused by improper intercourse. During coitus, rhythms vary, and the initiative often lies with the man, but women frequently experience interrupted arousal, stopping midway. This interruption leads to Qi rebellion, which transforms into turbid discharge or strangury. This condition arises from a state of partial fulfillment and non-fulfillment, and it is the most common yet least confessed issue among women. Among these three causes, eight or nine out of ten cases of turbid leukorrhea originate here. Treatment for these three types must address their respective sources to be effective. However, since the source may not be fully cleared, and symptoms recur upon slight provocation, the efficacy of herbal medicine cannot compete with the stirring of emotional desires, which explains why leukorrhea and turbidity are difficult to treat. Beyond these three, there are cases due to damp-heat flowing downward, deficiency-cold failing to secure, and Spleen-Kidney deficiency with sinking unable to grasp and retain. Treatment should be tailored to each syndrome.
If leukorrhea is caused by Heart fire agitation and restlessness, clear the fire first. Suitable formulas include Zhusha Anshen Wan (Cinnabar Calming the Spirit Pill), Qingxin Lianzi Yin (Clear the Heart Lotus Seed Decoction), or Zhizhi Gujing Wan (Directly Pointing Essence-Securing Pill). If there is no pathogenic fire but only Heart deficiency leading to leukorrhea, suitable formulas include Miyuan Jian (Secret Origin Decoction), Renshen Wan (Ginseng Pill), Xin Xu Bai Zhuo Ge (Song for Heart Deficiency White Turbidity), or Futu Wan (Poria and Dodder Pill).

Preparation and Administration: Use Yam powder, make pills with aged wine paste, size of Sophora seeds. Take over 100 pills per dose, with boiling plain water or wine on an empty stomach. Take 30 pills with salt wine on an empty stomach. Long-term use consolidates spirit and extends life. Avoid eating Malva verticillata (Kui Cai) and Plantago seed during consumption.
If interpersonal relations are obstructed, causing Jing pathway rebellion turning into turbidity and leukorrhea, initially use Liuwei Dihuang Tang (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction) or Weixi Wan (Weixi Pill) to promote drainage. If persistent, use Guyin Jian or Lingzhu Tusizi Wan to secure.
Liuwei Dihuang Tang (see section on Irregular Menstruation).

Effective when urine becomes clear. Avoid rice vinegar; bran vinegar is acceptable. Especially avoid anger and emotional disturbance.
If damp-heat flows downward causing turbid leukorrhea, the pulse is likely slippery and rapid, color red, with symptoms of irritability, thirst, and heat. Suitable formulas include Baoyin Jian (Nourish Yin Decoction), Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free Wanderer Powder), or Jingyan Zhudu Wan (Empirical Pig Stomach Pill). San Yin Fang's Jiajiu Zi Wan (see *Gu Fang Ba Zhen · Gu Zhen*) treats enuresis in young and old, and in men, severe deficiency, decline of Yang Qi, white turbid urine, and nocturnal emission. This tonic nourishes Yuan Qi and improves appetite. Note: Remove Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis) and double the amount of Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen) for better efficacy.

Preparation and Administration: Make pills with wine paste, size of Sophora seeds. Take 50–70 pills, up to over 100, before meals with warm wine or salt water. Enuresis in children is often due to Cold in the Bladder and insufficient inherited Yang Qi. Make small pills for them.
If Spleen-Kidney Qi deficiency with sinking causes abundant leukorrhea, suitable formulas include Shoupi Jian, Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction), or Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction).
Guipi Tang (see section on Irregular Menstruation).
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (see section on Irregular Menstruation).
Li Zai said: The aforementioned syndromes may arise from Six Excesses and Seven Emotions; drunkenness, overeating, or sexual excess; rich and greasy foods; damage from drying agents; depletion and sinking of Yang Qi; or accumulation of Damp-Phlegm flowing downward. Thus, it is called leukorrhea. All such cases should primarily strengthen the Spleen and Stomach and raise Yang Qi, supplemented by herbs addressing specific channel manifestations. If the color is green, it belongs to the Liver; use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus). If Damp-Heat stagnation causes red, scanty, painful urination, use Longdan Xiegan Tang. If the color is red, it belongs to the Heart; use Xiao Chai Hu Tang plus Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhizi, and Dang Gui. If excessive worry injures, use Miaoxiang San (Wonderful Fragrance Powder). If the color is white, it belongs to the Lung; use Buzhong Yiqi Tang plus Zhizi. If the color is yellow, it belongs to the Spleen; use Liujun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) plus Zhizi and Chai Hu; if ineffective, use Guipi Tang. If the color is black, it belongs to the Kidney; use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). If both Qi and Blood are deficient, use Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction). If Yang Qi sinks, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang. If Damp-Phlegm flows downward, add Fuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Cangzhu (Atractodis Rhizoma), and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) to the previous decoction. If Qi deficiency with Phlegm-Fluid flows downward, send down Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) with Sizhi Tang (Four-Seven Decoction). Do not rigidly adhere to the idea that fat people have much Phlegm and thin people have much Fire, lightly treating them with drying-dampness or draining-fire herbs.
Xiao Chai Hu Tang (see section for Unceasing Metrorrhagia and Leukorrhea).
